I have noticed while surfing the boards that sugarcraft.com is a common favorite place to buy....decopac.com is much cheaper. Just thought I would throw that out there! For instance the new cupcake bouquet is $12.99 on sugarcraft.com and only $5.00 on decopac.com. Just food for thought...

I just went to both websites and you need to be a licensed business to order from Decopac where as with Sugar craft you don't. Are there any other websites to order supplies from that you don't need to be a licensed business to place an order. I would like to order some edible images but can't seem to find a place to order them. Thanks!!

What type of edible images are you looking for?

Sugarcraft has a pretty good selection of them, as well as offering custom ones made from your own pictures.

http://www.cincicakeandcandy.com/index.php also has a lot of preprinted edible images.

As far as I know, anybody can order them from either of those places.

hth!
Laura.

This is often easier said than done. Of course, if you'd like to pay for the installation of a kitchen and the licensing fees, I'd be more than happy to get licensed!!! icon_lol.gif

I buy disposable bags from Kee-seal directly on-line. I like the way they come on a roll in a box that fits right in my drawer. You don't need any kind of license or tax # to get them. 100 in a box. You can buy one box or a case 5 boxes.

All I am saying is being able to buy things at wholesale is just another good reason to get licensed! I mean, working under the radar, not being able to advertise because what you are doing is illegal not to mention risking your home, any financial security you have, and losing your business forever...those are more important reasons to follow the law.

I'm pretty sure that you can order from decopac as a home baker. it's a little diffrent than regestering as a business, but I think you can do it both ways.

I've tried to order from decopac and they wouldn't even send me a catalog. I place a lot of orders with www.cakedeco.com and have never had a problem with them. Their customer service is great and they ship almost as soon as you order.

I just looked at the decopac site and it said you have to have a business and provide a tax id # to order from them. Oh well!

nah, decopac won't unless you're a business as well as bakerycraft.

oasisupply.com will but it takes about 2-2 1/2 weeks for you to get your stuff and if you need smaller quantities of stuff they have a sister site

I wasn't making a sly comment when I said "another reason to get licensed"...I was just simply stating that it IS another reason, among many, to get licensed. I live in Texas....Houston to be exact...and it was very hard to get licensed but for me, I didn't want to take the risks that many unlicensed cake bakers take everyday. I got on this site originally to get ideas for cakes but then got hooked on the forums. Upon reading how many are out there operating illegally...I just couldn't believe it! As for me paying for someone elses kitchen....work 3-4 twelve hour shifts in the middle of the night for a year and pay for your own kitchen! And as for me feeling bad about my comment on another reason to get licensed....I don't feel bad. I see a lot of talent on this board and I would hate to see it go to waste because you are shut down, fined, and possibly sued.

I believe we all make our own decisions...for our own reasons....and if that decision causes me to be shut down etc....that's the chance I take.....and I don't expect anyone to be sorry for my decisions.

I was simply posting a cheaper place to get products from when I got sucker punched by barefoot contessa. I'm not commenting on this anymore. I'm not even sure why I felt the need to reply to her comment on me paying for her kitchen and then LOL... how childish. I'm finished with these boards. I can find another place where I am not pushed out just because I am following the law and encouraging others to do the same. icon_eek.gif

SweetConfections~Please remember that often the typed word doesn't come across as well as the spoken word. IMO, Barefoot Contessa wasn't making any "sucker punch" comment.

You make a very valid point for getting licensed, she makes a very valid point that it isn't easy. But then, anything worth having is worth working for, right?

Getting mad is not going to solve anything here. Everyone has an opinion here, whether we like them or not. You were kind enough to post about a place to buy supplies cheaper, it just so happens that they only sell to licensed bakers. That isn't your fault. Many of us want to be licensed, we just can't afford to, what with all the rules and regulations. That isn't your fault either. Please don't get mad because one person thought she was being cute, funny, or other wise. She wasn't funny (to me, anyway).

I like Into The Oven. I placed an order Friday and received it today, Monday. And their price for Satin Ice and shipping is the cheapest I have found.

Thank you Peajay66 and Debsuewoo for your calming comments it is so much harder to determine intent in print than face to face! (Deb, you could probably teach a class in mediation as you always seem to know a kind or the right thing to say! thumbs_up.gif )

Thanks for starting this thread, as a newbie to cake decorating I appreciate everyones comments on where to get lower priced items for home use. Eventhough I'll probably never have a business, I still love to make and gift friends with cakes for their kids birthdays etc. so I still "need" some of these things and living almost 2 hours away from the nearest good sized city makes knowing about these websites very valuable to me. icon_biggrin.gif

Not to bring back up a bad subject, but I've heard that if you're selling to just "friends & family" - it's okay. You just can't really advertise or sell outside of those "friends". I'm just starting out and have tried to get info. on licensing, but haven't gotten any response from anyone I've tried to e-mail and I work a full time job so it's not like I can go visit and find out what the rules are..... however, right now I'm just selling to friends and family.

I have learned quite a bit on here about licensing vs. not being licensed - for instance, I would not take a large wedding cake order right now b/c 1) I don't think I'm that ready, 2) I don't want to figure out a serious contract, 3) I don't want to deal w/ the bridezillas! Hopefully my friends and family will stay sane & sensible and not turn into "zillas". icon_smile.gif

Thanks so much for posting about cheaper places to buy stuff - any discounts we can find are always helpful as this is a wonderful but expensive hobby - or starting business!

SweetConfectionsChef I did not see the comment barefoot contessa made a mean comment. I took it as a joke. As for being licensed. Every household is different and I know that I don't make enough cakes to have it even begin to be worth it and I am sure I am not alone. I think it is great that you had the money to make yourself legal but not everyone can do that no matter how many nightly shifts they pull in a rented kitchen. Plus those of us with children would find doing that hard the next day when we had to care for our children.

I am not being mean or snippy just saying that everyone has different situations. Thank you for posting the site, I know that there are a lot of us that are looking for other sites to get our supplies from. Thank you for posting the link, I am sure it was able tohelp some. Just please remember that you can't always hear how the person meant something and the initial comment I took as someone saying with a smile and a joking feel. As for my post, it is being made in a calm quiet voice just stating the other side of the picture.

I hope you don't take offense to my post because it wasn't meant that way.
