Help!! I am having problems with gnats-and they love to get stuck in the cake icing!! I have even avoided buying fresh fruit this summer-because I was stuck with them ALL last year! That has helped significantly. There is not any old/spoiled food such as potatoes around, nothing to attract them-other than lights on late at night and icing! Anyone else have this problem, and any solutions??? As I am reading this, I sound like the worlds worst housekeeper....really I'm not! icon_redface.gif

I had them for a few weeks and then finally I found a stray potato that had fallen out of the bag and rolled behind the table-top-grill in the pantry. Any chance you have something hiding on you?? If not, I can not think of any suggestions other than maybe a fly strip or a bug zapper in the kitchen??? icon_lol.gif

yes---we SCREAM at ANYONE that doesn't close the back door quick----theY are unreal this year

food does not attract ours--they just come in when the door is opened (house or car) & DRIVE YOU CRAZY

The ones I have seen are very small. Seem to come in through the door vs being attracted to food. Just cleaned out the pantry & re-organized, so I know there isn't any stray food lurking! I have seen about 3-4, just wondered how others dealt with them! icon_smile.gif

Hate them, Hate them, right now I don't have any but I did last week. I wait for them to start walking around on the windows then I clobber them with the fly swatter. I killed probably 20 in one day.

Any trash left overly long will attract them too.

Gnats come through the screens at my house. Close up the windows and turn on the AC. Or hang the sticky tape near the light and get out the fly swatter.

My bug guy (pest control person) says they breed in drains, especially if you have like an extra bathroom you don't use much. He told me to pour bleach down all my drains at least once a month and it will get rid of them. It did!!

I have the same problem!!!! icon_cry.gif I don't leave any food, trash, or standing water and they still seem to multiply. Someone told me to mix apple cider vinegar and baking soda and leave it out on the counter. The mix should attract them and they eat it and die. I don't know if it works, but I'm trying it now. I'm also going to pour bleach down the drain. Good luck. thumbs_up.gif Oh yeah, be careful when adding the baking soda because adding it too fast will cause a bubbling mess, I found out the hard way icon_redface.gif . Should've paid attention in chemistry. Anyways, good luck. icon_lol.gif

I had the same problem. I had some dive bomb a cake I was frosting. They are mighty bad this year for some reason. I clean constantly and don't keep veggies or fruit laying around, but my children love to stand and hold the door wide open!!

I wish gnats were my problem! I just found out I have a mouse! He hasn't had any cake yet, just graham crackers. Trap is set and ready to go. I hope I only have ONE!!

I hate drain gnats! We got the really bad last year but haven't had too many this year. This year it's the flys that are terrible! Anyway, I have found a way to get rid of them that works for me. If they are flying around and I can't get them, I wait for them to land, but instead of trying to get them with a swatter I use a can of cheap old hairspray. I spray them and when they look like they are trying to move but can't, I put them out of my misery.
Easy peasy!

I haven't had any gnats or mice. Buuuuttt ANTS!! I have been trying for weeks to rid of them. I have sprayed the entire outside of the house and had someone else come to spray. STILL HAVE THEM. I am sooooo ready for winter!

My first thought when I read this topic was... Do you have any potted plants inside? I'm a big gardener. That might be the problem. Gnats love to hang out in potting soil. So you might want to check your potted plants. Or if you have any fresh flowers in a vase they come from there too. If that's the culprit then you'll need to re-pot your plants or put them outside. I don't keep potted plants inside any more because of that gnat problem.

Ants have been my pests this year! I have been dealing with them since spring! I have sprayed, used the little ant motels, tero ant killer, you name it. They have finally almost gone away, just one here and there every couple of days, but they like to drove me insane!!!!

OMG---THOSE FREAKING ANTS! icon_evil.gif

Had the Old Man spray EVERYwhere around the windows & doors outside, and I've used the traps and spray inside... icon_cry.gif

It makes me INSANE to try and bake/cook with 'em around. I'm terrified one is gonna tunnel into my icing and cakes!

I don't know what else to do, either...I completely bleached out my kitchen the other day--and vacuumed out my cabinets and Lysol'ed them before putting the plates/glasses back in. You'd have thought it was spring-time again. STILL the dang'd ants come.
