I have been using Satin Ice on the last 3 cakes I have done, I had read about the elephant skin problem with it but did not really know what everyone meant, Now I do!! I am not really sure I like it!! The first time I used it, I thought it was a dream, especially to roll out and put on cake, pretty easy, however, it dries really fast and get that elephant looking thing going on, what do you all think? Is there a way to avoid that?

I've never had that problem with Satin Ice; did you try some crisco to keep from drying out?

I use Satin Ice and have not had this problem. Before I roll out the fondant, I make sure it is well kneaded and very pliable - using a combination of Crisco and cornstarch, depending on the fondant texture.

I use Satin Ice and have had it happen before when it's been unusually dry, or I fiddle around too long before putting it on the cake. You can combat it before it happens with some Crisco on the surface to help protect it from air, but I don't know how to help it after it happens.

I have heard of that happening with Satin Ice white, although I have not used it. I really love Fondx virgin white, rolls beautifully and smells so good, even though I am not a fondant eater myself. But I have used Satin Ice in colors and not had that happen. I too use Crisco to roll rather than cornstarch. Some long time Satin Ice users were complaining last year about a difference in the taste, they said sort of a metallic taste to it, or chemical maybe.
