I'm doing 3 cakes in one weekend for 3 of my cousins kids at a combined b-day party. The 3 year old love my Dora cake...ok easy. The seven year old wants race cars....ok, I think I can do that....but the 13 year old girl want's something with camouflage.

She a bit girly - purses and skirts....but she's a lot tomboyish. Loves hunting, camping and the outdoors. So I'm at a loss.

I've had 2 thoughts but all center around doing something girly in camo colors.

The first is one of those really pretty girly cakes with bows and ribbson all over - in camo colors....

or, doing a purse cake in the camo colors...

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure - either fondant or buttercream in pink camoflauge that is so popular right now, then could add girly accesories (purse, shoes, ipod, etc)
Here's a link to a bed spread, bean bag, etc in the pink camo (can click to enlarge)

Here's the result from a search in the gallery for pink camo

I did a camo sheetcake in girly colors...I suppose you don't need the style of this cake, but the colors might be helpful.
Have a look:

being thirteen myself i have a great suggestion. U could make an iPod cake (as in a rectangular with something resembling the iPod screen and click wheel, maybe her favorite song and artist and album in piped icing) that is decorated where a normal one would be white or black, in her favorite color of camoflage...but just a idea. icon_wink.gif

I like that idea too xtraxtra23! Are all of these cakes going to the same party? Are you going to want 3 small cakes? Your towers feed quite a few... the purse would probably be enough cake, but still give her something cool!

By the way...how are ya?!?!?!

hay xtraxtra23 ...what's an ipod????

just kidding! That is a really cute idea. I'm gonna give some of these ideas to her mom and see what she thinks she would like.

Hi Jennianne! Yes, all 3 cakes are for one party...I'm a little freaked out about that! They usually have about 75-100 people!!!! But she serves other desserts too.

I've got the Dora cake down and can make that to feed about 40. I'm gonna have all the dec's done well in advance - and anything I can do in advance for the other cakes. For the boy's cake, I was thinking about trying to do a cupcake cake with a fbct of racing cars.....so that will be new for me too...

I think I may be crazy.....but time will tell.

An iPod is a great idea! I have done a few, the green one is my latest, and favorite, because of the way I did the birthday girl's name. You could do it in camo, and the name in the same colors icon_smile.gif Have a look:

Littlelinda - I haven't done a doll cake in years - way before I was actually "decorating"...that would be really cute and I love the little gun idea....funny!

SugarFrosted - those ipods are really cool. How is it that every 13 year old has one......and I don't?? My 8 year old asked me for one the other day.

xtraxtra23 - you don't have to take a class to get started. Get some of the Wilton Yearbooks and start there. You will learn a lot - and read lots and lots. Your first cake will be a disaster - and if not the first then the second - but every cake you do you will improve. I taught myself how to use and work with fondant - no classes - just good old fashioned trial and error. (I did take a class later to see if I could pick up any helpful tips - and I did, but I then shared those tips here on cc) which leads me to your next resource....CC! Just hand out and watch and read, you'll learn pleanty!!! I can't wait to see your first cake!

Thanks, I'll look into that...I've already made my first cake actually (no pics though) i was basically winging it...it was a sheet cake i think, with cupcakes on top to look like a lego...i actually dyed the cake part blue, and did the frosting blue (my mom did the frosting for this one) and so, we're humdeedoing along, and the friend whos birthday its for comes in, so me and my other friend are hiding it from my other friend. meanwhile mom is frosting the cake (well the cupcakes actually) and thats a disaster, cos the frosting is pulling them apart...we ended up with a cake that said "Happy Birthday Magen" on it with two cupcakes at the top left corner, and me and madison wrote our names on those.

Well, you can do the pink camouflage or the yellow. The new fashions now have them in different colors with some bling added like rhinestones and stuff.

http://artfulwears.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=wh_xcvi2465shell

example of pink camouflage

but basically, in some stores, I have seen like "blinged out" camouflage. Either the outline of the camouflage shape is encrusted in rhinestones or glittery affect. Even have seen some glittery camouflage wiht purple, pink and white. Stuff like that. I think if you could do the camouflage design and get the luster dust or sparkly cake glitter, it would be girly. Or you could do a camouflage purse design.

I most definitely think girly camo as in the pink colors.

Depending on how much cake you need...an ipod is an excellent idea...or a cell phone, or anything a 13 yo loves.

They didn't have those things around when I was 13, but I actually think bottles of pink camo nail polish would be a cute idea!!

I also like the bling look...maybe some luster dust??

good Luck and Let us know what you come up with!!

SLK - amazing cake. i actually clicked on the search results fo rpink camo and saw this one and loved it (didn't realize it was yours). anyway - i was going to say that my 9 year old step-daughter has been bugging me for an ipod as well as a cell phone so i told her that when she can come up with a really good reason why she needs one then i'll buy her one. so far she has nothing.

mxpark - thanks.......

isn't "Just 'cause I need one" a good enough reason? hahaha.....my 8 year old was trying to tell me she needed a cell phone "for emergencies" and I laughed at her! I told her to ask again when she was 20! haha
