Hi, y'all!

I've just gotten an order for a wedding cake. The base icing will need to be colored "champagne," and I need to get as close as possible to the color of the gown in this pic:

http://davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=2660&prodgroup=92

Can any of my CC buddies out there tell me how to do this? detective.gif

Is there a color already available to make this, or will I need to mix? What colors will I need to try in order to get this base color?

Any suggestions/hints here would be GREATLY appreciated! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks, Y'all!

Beautiful gown...but sorry, gotta bump here! maybe a teeny-tiny touch of the ivory in the batch? Or the tan....like one drop. Sorry, I can't really help. But, I'll be interested in the results. Wish I could have looked like that in my wedding gown!! icon_biggrin.gif

I really am not sure either. Looks like maybe a touch of pink and tan/lt. brown/copper???? It is a beautiful dress though!

Yeah, really--Lukerubyjoy! Me, too--but I didn't have a wedding. Just went to the bishop's home.

The bride I'm making it for---SHE LOOKS THAT PRETTY! (We need a "barfing" emoticon for nights like this!) lol

Thanks for the bump,

Hi there, beautiful gown!!! I would try to use Ivory with a tiny touch of soft pink and a touch for brown. I did this for a cake, I wasn't really going for a champagne color but that was the result I got. Good luck and please, try it on a little bit of fondant or buttercream (wichever you a using) before you do the whole batch. I would feel horrible if it doesn't turn out for you! HTH

Ask for a swatch...looks pretty close to a rum pink to me which would have oyster, brown, and pink or copper

knoxcop1: I'm still laughing about the emoticon. I often wish we had a few more that we don't have....

Make sure too...when you try stuff, you write every time down. I once finally got to the right shade, and forgot how many of which I used....(we need a 'smiley knocking himself in the head with a board' emoticon for that!!)

I will go with IVORY and a little touch of brown. If you wan to get that "satin" finish use luster dust. Brush in dry. There is champagne color dust.

Thanks, Y'all! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

I live vicariously through the pages of CC, and brides, too! icon_rolleyes.gif

I've got to do buttercream, I don't know fondant yet! icon_cry.gif

The bride wants a groom's cake done that is fondant, though--guess I'll have to find someone here in Knoxville to commission that one to.

I guess I'll pull out the BUCKET to mix this up in, once I get it right--it's a good sized lil' cake--and I don't want any variations once I get it going.

Thanks, everyone, for your great help! thumbs_up.gif

Hi Knox, just remember that the color might change as it sits overnight, so make your buttercream a couple days before just to be sure of the final color! Good luck!!

I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not, but when I have to find a soft color; I mix small batches till I find the color I want, I then double or triple the coloring in the small batch so it gets fairly deep. THEN I slowly add spoonfuls of the colored icing into the large batch till I get the perfect color. This works really well for me.

I have found that very small amounts of soft pink brighten the color just enough so you don't get that dull yellowey look. The pink also makes the champagne color look prettier in pictures, though I don't know why.

Did you try countrykitchensa.com? I know they had champaigne luster dust and an Americolor Ivory that looks close to that shade......good luck! I know I saw it somewhere, but can't remember which site....I'll keep looking..... thumbs_up.gif

Ok, Y'all!

After MUCH experimentation, (and LOTS of wasted icing icon_surprised.gif ) I've got it!!

Here's the color combo that finally did it! Seriously--I was going in WAY the wrong direction, until I tried the black.

What I did was added 2 parts "copper," (flesh) and 1 1/2 parts black! Came up exactly like the picture, and upon deepening--went kind of like a more violet hue. That was easily corrected by touching it again with a HINT of the copper. thumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

I'm not sure what made me go with the black, but I was noticing a kind of "grey" color in the shadows of the picture, so I tried that.

Thanks to everyone who helped! icon_smile.gif

Sincerely,
--Knox--
