Please be totally honest w/ me... What would you all charge for this cake? The amt. of cake is close to a 1/2 sheet. It's Dk. Chocolate fudge cake w/ Hersheys dark choc. frosting and choc. buttercream. The fondant is Rhonda's Ultimate choc. MMF. I was thinking I might have undercharged at first, but now I'm not so sure
Please be totally honest, what would you charge or pay? I'll tell you what I charged after you show me yours first
lol TIA
<3 Lynda
p.s. Sorry I couldn't actually post the pic here; It was too large or something ![]()

No less than $3.00 per serving, but I'd think more like $4.00. It is fabulous BTW. Incredible job!!!
WoW!! Very cute...
Well hon, when pricing hand sculpted cakes like this you have to first look at how many hours it took you to make it. Then the materials, and ingredients. Add those up and decide what your time is worth and then add another 50% on to that and that is your price.
So say it cost you $35.00 for ingredients and materials, and it took you 5 days to complete. That's worth about $65.00 dollars in my book!!
Just remember when pricing your creations that your time is worth everything!! Charge what you think you are worth! ![]()
The cake you posted is very cool. Due to the fact that it is sculpted, that cake, serving about 25 people?, should go out for no less than $100.00. Given that you have upgraded fondant, cake flavor is max, and so is the icing under the fondant, I would say the cake is worth more like $125.00.
I only charged $50! I guess I have to chalk it up to experience
. Not counting baking the cakes (1 1/2 hrs) or making the fondant (20 min. done a few days before), I took seven hours to assemble, carve and decorate the cake. I spent about $15 (but this also includes me counting a little something for dragees, dusts, dyes, etc). I did come out ahead and the pricing does fall into the rule of suppliesX3 , but after the cake was done I thought to myself, "HEy! I think that cake may be worth a little more?" I need to have more confidence in myself; I just never know if I'm going to execute what I have in my head. This is the first time I made a cake and felt good about it both while I decorated and after I stood back and looked at it... So anyway, I guess I got paid an hourly wage of $5...
It doesn't sound so good like that, does it??? ![]()

the first time i do a design its always a bargin. Its the second time around that the price goes up. Cause then i know what is involve with it.
I am the same way. It always takes longer than I think. So until I actually do it, someone always ends up with a bargain.
Crablegs, I love your name
I actually don't know what others charge around here; I don't know any other bakers. I think I'm going to call specialty shops and see what they charge... I know my sheets are more than Wal-mart but I don't think that's comparable
Most of my cakes are first time deals, though, because I very rarely have someone order a duplicate of another cake I've done (but it has happened before).
L-B, you did an amazing job. You def. undpriced it... I've done the same.. made a 4 year-olds birthday cake for a friend's daughter, DID'T CHARGE, told her it was my gift, when they displayed the cake, i was told that people would pay hundreds of dollars for it! However it was the first cake i made for someone outside of my family, so I made myself feel better by referring it as a PROMO cake! Your name is out there now.. use it as advertising
! That made me feel better!

I'm the same way. I just let my enchanted tree cake go for $100. It was for a friend and my cake buddy and I were desperate to give it a try before she moves, so I wasn't that hurt. But NEVER again!
L-B you did an absolutely FANTASTIC job with your cake.
I agree with everyone, you did underprice yourself but just let her know it's a one time deal for a good friend and this is not the cost of the cake.
I live in the NYC area and in all honesty your cake would go for $250 being the low end and up to $500 for the high end, if not more.
You did a fantastic job and the recipient of the cake will brag about you forever.
