I've had mine for a long time and use it numerous times every week. I rarely use the cards that they have (in fact I'm not sure where they are). I make my own pictures or use it to trace outlines and shapes and then add my own details. Ex. car body, airplane shape, etc. It's the best investment I made besides a good mixer.

I have one, never use it. Unfortunately, I learned a much easier and cheaper method after I bought mine and so it never gets used. icon_sad.gif Oh well....probably put it on eBay someday. icon_rolleyes.gif Or it is possible I will have a more complicated picture where I can put it to use.

So what way did you find cheaper? Inquiring minds want to know.

I bought one, but haven't used it yet (haven't had any cakes for awhile with DHs Surgery and life getting in the way!) Can't wait to try it!

I used to use one at the bakery I worked in all of the time. We used the cards(but the pics are so out dated), we also used pics from b-day cards and coloring books, oh and party plates.

I use piping gel EXCEPT not exactly as Wilton teaches. I trace the image on wax paper then LET THE GEL HARDEN. Press it into your crusted BC, carefully lift off, and you have an indention of the picture in front of you with no bright light, no heat, etc. I prefer this over the KK.

Ritzy... that's an ingenious idea!! I hate using the piping gel method because then you have piping gel all over your cake, and I don't like that! Thanks for the tip!!

i do the same thing except I actually just pipe with icing. I find a picture online or from a coloring book. print it, flip it over and then ice the outline with a black or white buttercream. Never had any issues and it copies right onto the cake.

RitzyFritz....you have a very valuable point! I'm using the pin-prick method to transfer my images and that is VERY inexpensive to do! I'll have to try the piping gel method! I assume you can use those over and over since it hardens? Now THAT would be awesome!

Yes, I reuse them, although they can get messed up if you don't store them properly because they actually get kinda tacky rather than rock hard (general feel for piping gel when dried). It definitely works for me. I haven't tried the pin-prick method because it always seemed to be too time consuming? Am I right about that?

What I like about the KopyKake is that it enlarges the picture. I can start with a small one and enlarge it quite a bit or flip the lens and make a large picture smaller. I've tried the frozen buttercream idea but go back to the KopyKake...it's much easier for me. I also have a laundry room that has no windows and a cabinet to put the KopyKake on so it's dark when I need to use it and it's out of the way. It's a BIG piece of equipment. Also I'm a last minute person...so nothing is done ahead and the KopyKake is there.

Have one, love it but don't use it as often as I'd like. I think I got a good deal - I got it plus 4 decks of the cards for $190, it was $200 after shipping... Bought it from ABC and the guy said he'd throw in the cards for free because it was the last projector they had and the cards were just sitting there. I have the KR100 (which retails for $280 + shipping from Kopykake).

Anyway, I"ve probably had it about 2 years now and maybe used it 10 times, mainly because my customers demands are more for traditional baby shower, wedding, flowers, etc and not often for pictures. I will say that it comes in handy when needed, I just need my demand to be there, lol. I sometimes wonder if I should've saved the $ and gotten an airbrush (I've been drooling over them) but then I'm not sure I would use it often enough either, and the projector is convenient because as someone else said, I can resize pictures without the use of my computer.

Only negative thing about it for me is the space - it's a monster! RIght now it's in my garage because I can't think of anywhere else it'd be safe from the kiddos!

PS - sorry I'm rambling, but I havne't used any of the 4 packs of cards that came with - they are pretty outdated! I use pics from mags, invitations, etc.
