I have heard that you need to use a heating core on 10" or larger pans. Doesn't this create a hole in the middle of your cake? Please help me!!!

Yes it does but I never use one... even on my 16" round pans.

If you use an actual heating core, you fill it with batter. When the cake is done, you remove the cake from the core and plug it into the hole in the cake.

However, it is MUCH easier to use an inverted flower nail. The metal helps relay the heat to the middle to cook the center of the cake.
