jobartwo, I am sitting here this very minute and covering my cake boards in a wedding wrapping paper for a 50th anniversary cake I am dong tomorrow!! I love wrapping paper! I then cover the board with clear contact paper. It really enhances the look of the cake.
Oh gosh, not the contact paper question again. LOL Do a search for contact paper and you'll find lots of posts about it... ![]()
Wrapping paper is great.......................my only question is this...........how do you get the clear contact paper to go on smooth?????? Everytime I have my wrapping paper all nice and neat and then when I put on the contact paper it gets all wrinkled. Its on the roll and won't exactly lay flat.
And to answer that other question...no I am not questioning the safety of contact paper...I just want to know how to use it properly. ![]()
O.K. I am not a food scientist nor do I work for the FDA. I read all the posts about safety, etc. What I am using is clear shelf liner paper (could not find the contact paper here) that I bought at Target. It does NOT smell like vinyl. In fact I tasted some (a lick) and it did not taste funny and I have not died YET> ![]()
As for application, I cover my boards completely with my wrapping paper (taping the edges on bottom), then lay this on my clear paper and cut it so I can tuck and press it on the bottom. I do also tape the edges on the contact paper to get a nice flat edge on bottom. By putting the wrapping paper on first, I think that will solve your problem of wrinkles. I have taken my contact paper and after removing the backing paper, folded an edge under on each side to hold it to the counter until I can get my board on it. Press, tuck, and tape, and there you have it! I always wipe the finished board with a damp paper towel. Have you ever thought about all these cardboard circles? Are they produced in a sterile environment? Does anyone clean the machinery or do they wear gloves in production? Just thinking out loud...
Sorry for the long post, I am a detail person. Hope this helps someone.
Keep on caking!!
