One of Dr. Phil's sons got married this week and there is a video of them cutting the six foot tall wedding cake. It is hard to really see the details but it is very interesting looking.
Go to www.drphil.com and click on the pic of his son and wife where it says congratulations. Scroll down.

It almost looks like it's decorated with white chocolate. You're right it is hard to see the details. It's different.

Beautiful cake!

Did y'all notice that his hands were UNDER hers? Not exactly hanging with "tradition" there, Jay...

Pretty cake, it looks like fabric. Hmm, the bride looks kind of stern, I dunno.

Blah - 'model', how original. I long for the day when well-known people marry someone normal! Looks like we can see who'll be wearing the trousers in that relationship!

It looks like fondant to me....like it's totally wrapped, and has layers peeling off for effect. I could be wrong...I did a cake somewhat like that this past summer, so of course that's what I see!

I think at my friend's wedding, her hand was on his, but then again, they really didn't know anything about tradition.

well I went googling to find details of the cake- seems nobody thought it was worthy of describing in detail lol, the fact that she's a Playmate was more newsworthy icon_rolleyes.gif however the 'her hand on his' thing makes sense: I found out she's a couple years older than him LOL and you know what older women do with younger men! LOLOL

Who cares about hand placement? I don't think it shows anything, and if it does, so what?

eh who knows, it might be the same lady who did them, she's in Los Angeles area- maybe a popular design for her- they look darn close except for the flowers. On her website in 'about' it says she's done a whole bunch of cakes for a myriad of celebrities. Quite possible!

LOL icon_lol.gif I couldn't place it, but yes, that IS what it looks like!

And the mean side of me says they should have sprung for a Fred Astaire lesson for that first dance.

How long does it take to cut cake? She was more interested in the camera than the cake? "Knife? What's that? You cut things with it? Kitchen....hmm, I've heard of that word......" insert bubbly giggle

Sounds like my husband!! People magz had a photo of Marcia Cross (the redhead clean fanatic on Desperate Housewives) at her wedding, cutting this 6 ft tall cake. I showed him the picture and said, "would you look at that?" He said, (get this!) "Yeah....she's hot!" I said, "THE CAKE, YOU IDIOT, LOOK AT THE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!" icon_razz.gif

So throw in that the bride is super gorgeous and you're right.... no one but us cake fanatics are going to be interested!

You dont cut the cake. You roll it up and dip each piece into some frosting. Serve with margaritas.

Okay, Y'all--

According to "tradition," the groom is to place his hand over the bride's. Evidently it springs from the old days when they used royal icing to cover the cakes with, and she wouldn't be "strong" enough to cut the cake without her chivalrous man there to help! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

No WONDER they were all toothless back then! icon_twisted.gificon_razz.gificon_razz.gificon_lol.gif

P. S. (And we "care," because it's dealing with cakes...You know, this IS Cake Central, after all.)
