Does anyone know if gum paste will "melt" if it is placed on buttercream the way fondant does?

Once it is completely dry, it will be fine on buttercream.

I have done this before and never had a problem. Just make sure your gumpaste pieces are dry before you put them on the cake.

my pink and green polka dot cake in my photos has gumpaste spots on buttercream and it was fine.

just make sure the gumpaste is dry before applying it to the cake.
