I am making a tiered cake for tomorrow & so need this info quickly. Do I insert the dowels after crumb coating or after the final coat of icing. I am new to this & so am learning from all you experts out there. Thanks in advance.
I fully decorate the cakes and then put the dowels in! HTH

Unless I'm going to decorate around the dowels, I stick them in very last, and assemble at the site, when possible.
