Hi everyone
I was just wondering how much time and energy do you spend smoothing the bc when you are covering it with fondant? Does it have to be really smooth when you putting fondant on? And how much bc do you put on?
I am a self-taught decorator and CC has been invaluable to me. I just smooth my bc a bit, don't spend a lot of time on it, and then smooth the fondant. I also think that maybe I am not putting enough bc on.
I use a regular coat of buttercream under the fondant and do not smooth it as much as if I were doing a buttercream cake.

it depends on who i'm making the cake for if it is someone that normally does not like the taste of fondant i put a double layer of bc and then make the fondant alittle thicker than normal and i do try to smooth it out ( but not to perfection). if the person likes fondant then i put a thin layer of bc and i can make my fondant alittle thinner too. if you put thin fondant on a double layer of bc the fondant will not set well and it will tear when you are trying to smooth it out.( i know from experience
)
