I had a customer e-mail yesterday for a cake for her son who is turning 18 and going away to college. She needs a cake for 50 people. I was thinking of a suitcase with a book on top for the going away to college portion, but how to incorporate the birthday, so that it all ties in? Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You could add on the book the age for example in roman (book)style like XVIII. You could put this on the side or top of the book, of just his year of birth like the date the book was printed in.....

Good luck, the suitcase with book idea sounds really great!!

What about a moving box or a mailed package? There are some cute ones in the galleries. You could address it to "Broke College Student" on "Laundry Mountain Lane" or similar kitchy stuff. The 'Fragile' or 'This Way Up' stamp/lables could read something appropriate - "We'll miss you", "Happy Birthday", etc.

What about an open book that says something like "A new year and a new chapter in your life" or something like that? Corny, but gets the point across.
