How can I make homemade gumpaste?? Is it worth it or I'll be better of buying it?

Thank you!

i just always buy the Wilton's Gumpaste mix- you just mix with water. It's about $4.99 for a can and it makes quite a bit.

I like the Wilton premade gum paste. It's a bit more expensive, but it's a time saver and very consistent. You can just rub some crisco into it and you're ready to go. It dries rock hard very quickly.

With Michael's, Joann's, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore coupons, etc. it runs between $3.50 and $4.50/lb.

One of the best recipes for gumpaste is the one used by Nicholas Lodge. The instructions for making it are with the recipe. I makes a large recipe, but it can easily be cut in half.

look at nicholaslodge.com

Wilton's mix is not very white, but it works

Wilton's premade is white and also works well, but needs crisco kneaded in to make it moist

Bakels also has a ready made, as does Nicholas Lodge.

Here is a post on another thread with recipe:

I love the Nicholas lodge recipe. Just made some more a couple days ago.

Am I crazy? I looked on the nicholas lodge page, and I couldn't find the recipe. At least not listed on the left hand side as it was previously.

Am I losing my mind?

I use the recipe from Scott Clark Wolley - www.cakesbydesign.cc you'll have to search for it a bit, but it is a good recipe and very easy to make. it is the only thing I use, and I like it much much better than the wilton stuff.
