Since everyone liked my last thread, how about another? How about where we met our significant others? I'll start....

I met my DH about 15 years ago (are you ready for this?) on a computer chat room! We knew each other for about a year before we started dating, but only because we were both dating other folks. I guess God had other plans for us because he's my bestest friend in the whole world!
Oh, we have three kids... 8 yob, soon to be 8yog, and soon to be 6 yog. (The two oldest are only 2 1/2 months apert so they are like twins icon_lol.gif )

[quote="peacockplace"]Wow... I didn't know there were chat rooms that long ago!

Actually, it was called a Bulletin Board System at the time (BBS for short). We could post on topics or go to the chat room. At that time, however, it was mostly local people so we were able to meet at monthly brunches, or various types of gatherings. I was truely blessed by God with my husband. He's, like I said, my bestest friend ever!

Well, this is an interesting topic, my DH moved in with his father while attending college. That made him my next door neighbor. Suddenly my Golden retriever had to go outside every night around 5:30, just as he was coming in from work. It sparked many conversations, until one evening I was grilling out and explained that I had some how gotten carried away and had fixed way to much food. How can a man resist a good grilled burger, and baked potato hot off the grill as he is coming in from a long day.LOL Anyway, it worked! I guess it is true the way to a mans heart is thru his stomach.
We have been married 5 years in July.
We met in July 98
engaged July 99
married July 00
moved to Ohio July 01
first child July 02
Moved home to WV July 04
I can't wait until next month!!!!!!!

My dh and I were both active duty Air Force-I worked in the hospital-he was a cop-he was out playing football in the dorm parking lot (only female dorm next to the cop dorm--hmmmmmm-honor and protection???) Anyway, I had just come home from the hospital after having nasal surgery-was sitting on the front stoop when a stray football hit me-you guessed it-right in the nose!! After falling all over himself apologizing, he took me to the hospital to repair his damage-couldn't help but feel bad for him-we went out-have been together for over 27years-have a 24yo girl, 23yr boy and am raising a 4year old granddaughter! Keeps ya young!!

I too met my husband online. IRC.... which I guess is a precursor to chatrooms. Met in '93, married in '96. We have a 6yo and a 4yo.

He likes my new hobby icon_smile.gif Homemade cakes don't take quite as long to make as homemade sweaters.

Met in '85, married in '87. the last 18 years have been the best in my life. He's a special breed...he's a contractor married to a police officer! Kind of put a new twist on how the police always get their man icon_lol.gif No kids....had a golden retriever but sadly she is no longer with us. my hubby and I met playing billards. I joined a league and his team just so I could meet him icon_smile.gif It took almost a year to get him to go on a date with me. He is 18 years my senior and he was unsure about starting a relationship with someone so much younger than him. Long story short, a mutal (sp?) friend of ours convinced him to take me out and the rest is history. We have been together for 9 years and married 6 years. I was the maid of honour at my cousin's wedding and he was the best man in March of '96. We met on the Thursday, partied on Friday, did our wedding duties on Saturday, went out on our first date on Sunday, exchanged 'I love you's' by Monday morning, and I flew home to Calgary, Alberta that afternoon. By May we were engaged and by July I had moved back to Ontario. We were married 18 months less a day after we met. Whirlwind to say the least! So here we are 5 years married and 5 kids! A 13 yr old girl, 9 yr old boy and three 2 yr old girls. Whew!

There it was Halloween 2003 - I had went all out on my costume this year - spent a lot of money - I had a feeling something big was going to happen tonight. There I was dressed in a black patent leather French Maid's outfit complete with braided pig tails, black fishnet stockings, low-cut bustier and white stilletto heels. I felt like a diva icon_surprised.gif

There were 4 of us friends that had plans to do something (I can't remember what it was now), but my best friend had called the day before Halloween to ask if we wanted to change our plans and go up to his aunt & uncle's Halloween party in Iowa 2 1/2 hours away (we live in Missouri). I really did not want to drive almost 3 hours just to go to a party because I didn't think I'd have fun. I even told my best friend no because his aunt's son had a well known crush on me and I knew he'd be there so I just really did not want to go at all, but then I had spent all of this money on my costume and had been planning this that I didn't want to be left doing nothing.

So the 4 of us decide to go to Iowa - although it wasn't easy. We didn't even make the decision to finally go until around 7pm on Halloween, so we go and gas up his car and get ready to leave when the driver's side door will not shut, period. We couldn't drive 3 hours holding a heavy door closed. The only other option for a comfortable ride was to borrow his grandpa's van - but to do that we had to put the 2 rear seats back in - and then we had to go get more gas even though we had all put the gas money into his car. It didn't look good.

We finally get on the road to Iowa and end up at the party around 11pm. It was such a magical night and one of the best of my life. I was the life of the party, everyone flocked to me including women! I couldn't believe it so I just went with it and had a blast.

I was the center of attention including holding the attention of my future boyfriend and his best friend. One of them said I looked better than Britney Spears and when I asked who said it - they both argued over which one had. I was attracted to Jon from the moment I saw him. We spent the rest of the party getting to know each other and he still hadn't asked for my number before we were getting ready to leave. I thought what the hell? I just invested a night of my time & effort and he's just going to let me go. So right before I left I said so did you want my number? And he looked stunned, and said but you live 3 hours away, I said so? Do you want my number or not? He quickly left and came back with a pen and we exchanged numbers.

He gave me a strong hug and we said goodbye. Four days later on a Weds, I decided to call him, he was shocked to hear from me, said he never thought he'd hear from me again. We talked for 7 hours - I had the $400 cell phone bill to prove it. I called him again the following night and on the spur of the moment I asked if he wanted to spend the weekend with me but I forwarned him that I owned a handgun and knew how to use it. I think that almost scared him into NOT coming. So I drove to Iowa to pick him up, we didn't get back to my place until about 2:30am. As soon as I finished showing him around my place, I leaned in and kissed him softly. I remember saying that was the kiss I wanted after I had left him at the party. We spent the weekend together and on our last night he professed he was already in love with me. I took him back to Iowa and felt so empty when I left. He felt the same way too. A week later we talked about him moving in with me since I had a great career and was not willing to re-locate. A little less than 3 weeks after we met, we were making a home together. And here it is now almost 2 years later - I'm hoping he'll propose to me within this year! And to think I almost didn't even go to that party up in Iowa! icon_lol.gif

I didn't even get a proposal. I got the "well, myabe we should get married" speech. (I never said he was romantic!).

We met at a was supposed to meet my sister, I was the designated driver for my 2 sisters celebrating that night. She was pretty tipsy and just laughed but wouldn't really talk to him, so I did! Then I found out he was 7 years my junior and I didn't want any more to do with him...we dated for a couple years and married in '88. I had 3 children from a previous marriage and he has been a dad to them all without fail, he's my best friend!

I met my DH while my Dad was stationed in Japan. I was 2 mths shy of being 18 when my Dad got the orders to Japan so he made me go w/ the family! I went to Japan kicking & screaming!!

Anyway, I met my DH while I was on a date. I was dating an AF guy. The parties were in the dorms so after the date we went back to the dorms to play games w/ everyone we knew. Well DH to be was there. He was drunk off his rocker!! I walked into the room & said hello to everyone. DH was sitting on the back on a chair. When he saw me he feel over backwards in the chair!!! It was hilarious!!!!! I was enjoying being w/ this other guy. DH to be kept hitting on me. He asked for my #, he asked where I worked (I was 18 but looked around 24). I got mad because he wouldn't leave me alone so I told him that I was in the Navy & I was in Munitions!! That's all that popped up in my mind because that's what my dad did!! Anyway my date brought me home & we never went out again...

After him I started seeing DH's best friend (now isn't that funny?). DH would come on all the dates I had w/ his friend. Finally me & DH became friends. I finally broke it off w/ DH best friend because there was nothing there. Me & DH started spending more time together. Always having a good time. One day we were at a football game just as friends & he leaned over & told me that he has loved me since the first time he saw me!!!! He finally asked if we could "date". I finally gave in.... LOL...

About 6 mths later we were getting very serious... & that dumb man broke up w/ me!!!! He broke my heart! I finally started dating again & DH would be everywhere me & the date were! He was stalking me!! Finally one night at a party I was at w/ this new guy I was seeing (just friends), my DH to be saw my car there & got one of his friends to come in & get me to come outside. Well I did. My DH was drunk AGAIN well he asked me to marry him!!! The nerve!! I told him when he sobered up he should ask me. So the next day he came to my house. Told me he had gotten cold feet that's why he broke up w/ me... but he had plenty of time to think & he knew he wanted to be w/ me. He asked me to marry him & I said yes!

We met in June of 85, got married in Sept 86, & the rest is history!!!

I met my dh in 1998 through a chaparoned blind date. My friend was friends with HIS best friend's wife. They concocted a "date" for us where the 6 of us would go (my friend & her dh, his friend and his wife, Joe and I) Our first "real" date was on my 30th birthday. He brought me the hugest, most beautiful boquet of Fall flowers I have ever seen.

We hit it off right away and were married in September, 1999. less than a year later. We have been blessed with 2 girls, ages 5 and almost 2. As we both suffered from fertility problems with our first marriages, my pregnancy with our 5 year old was a huge shock. We also have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a varying number of fish (I think about 11 at the moment--no recent tragedies in the tank. lol!)

What a FUN topic!! I loved reading everybody's stories.

I met my bf in 7th grade on the school bus. He was two years older and I was one shy girl, so I never tried to talk to him. We finally became good friends my sophomore year of high school and then fell in love at a fireworks display the following fall! We've been together for 3 1/2 years and he is my soulmate and my best friend. A wedding will be along shortly, within the next 4 years or so!

My DH and I met through my sister-in-law ... this had a twist to it lol .. his sister was married to my brother .. she told me she had a good looking brother who was single but dating someone that she knew was wrong for him ... she wanted to introduce us ... I didn't feel comfortable with the fact she was trying to break him up with the gf and told her this.. so time went on.. one night he was at their home having supper and she called and invited me over .. he's very shy and quiet, I'm very outgoing and outspoken ... we talked a little, but mostly my brother and sister-in-law did the talking ... my SIL then invited me to the movies with her and her kids (from a previous marriage) and I accepted... she had invited her brother along too ... she pulled me off to the side while he was busy with her kids playing a video game while waiting for seating to the movie and told me he thought I was cute and really wanted to go out with me.. I told her to tell him "well tell him to ask me for Pete's sake!! How hard is that to do?"... he finally asked me out and 2 years later in 1992, we were married... he has 4 children and I have 2 ... 2 of his lived with us till grown and my 2 lived with us ... so we had 4 children in the home when we married.. they're all grown now and left home so it's just me, him, 2 dachshunds and a beagle ... their our babies now .. I guess we still feel the need to nurture something lol ...

I met my husband at a wedding reception on a blind date! I was living in Nashville, TN, and was coming to Union City, TN, for a wedding of the sister of my best friend and was to serve at the reception. Once I got to town, my best friend told me that she and her aunt had "fixed me up" on a blind date - they had invited him to come to the reception. I just begged and begged her not to, but needless to day, it didn't work. He sat in the parking lot for about 30 minutes trying to decide whether or not to come in. He did, finally, and we hit it off immediately. He and some friends came back to my friend's house for a while that night and I left to go back home (2 1/1 hours away) the next day. My friend gave him my phone number and we started talking every night. Long story short, we were married less than 4 months later - 10 days shy of 4 months to be exact. I moved back to his hometown - I had lived there growing up, so it was a place I knew well. We've been married a little over 13 years and have twin boys who will be 10 in 10 days!

Ok... everyone else told the whole story so here goes. We met New Years Eve... kissed me at midnight. Then we dated the next four days until he has to fly back to school in CA. I want back FSU and we sent letters and called until my spring bread in March. He lived with a family in Newport Beach. They said they'd love to have me so I came out for a week... which turned into two and a half weeks. I left with a promise ring. His family was close to my home town and the plan was that he would come home after the end of the semmester. I had to get a medical release from school that semmester because I was having migranes and they couldn't figure out why. It turned out to be a blessing because. I was free to go back to CA. Two weeks after being home he called my parents and told them he loved me and asked for permission for me to go back to CA. He found me a job and the family he lived with wanted me to move into an extra bedroom. ( He lived in a garage apartment type thing) So I packed and went to CA. Two weeks later we were engaged. He took me out in a little boat off the rock jetti at sunset! It's funny how things all work out!
As a side note.... I wasn't supposed to be at the dance that night. i was on a blind date. If the date was bad, my out was I had to get my sister from the dance. DH was meeting some friends there to go out. But we met and sparks flew!

what a great brings back lots of wonderful memories!

My DH and I met in college at Baylor University (SIC EM BEARS!). It was the end of spring semester our junior year, and I was going to a dance for a services organization I was in (I was the social chiar and planned the whole thing)and didnt have a date, which I was fine with. But a mutual friend called future husband up and asked him to go with me. I was so mad at my friend for doing that, and my friend almost called it off thinking I would be mean to him. DH and I both had the best time at the dance and became best friends. We spent the next 8 months as friends, didnt start dating till new years, and we were engaged early April. We got married a year latter in May, and we just had our 1st anniversary! It gets better every day. My mom makes wedding cakes, and DH knew that I wanted to learn and start making cakes myself, so this past Christmas he plotted with both our moms to get me cake pans and lots of other good stuff!!! He is so good to me!

I love these stories! My husband and I met at a McDonald's of all places! I was one of the last girls in my group to not have a boyfriend (all the rest were either engaged, about to be, or married). I was just sick of the whole thing and decided I was fine on my own. I had a funny felling that God was going to give me something special on my birthday... something I had been waiting for. I was trying to raise money to go to a youth missions orginization in TX, and just wanted a part-time job to help before I made the move down there. I had an interview at McD's on my birthday, and that was when I first met him. At first, he was interested in my friend, and I was interested in getting to Texas, so we started out as friends. 2 days after I met him (and after I started working) my car was totalled and he drove me back and forth to work and home which caused us to become fast friends. We stayed up late every night just talking and fell in love. 2 mo's. later, we were engaged. we were married 6 mo.'s after we met. We met a lot of opposition from friends and family (cultural barriers and age since he is Puerto Rican and I am 2 1/2 years older), but we knew we were it for each other. So, here we are 6 years later, still best friends and we have 3 kids ages 5, 3 and 1 (almost 2).
