OK, WHAT is with this thing??

Does anyone have this? I got it at Michaels, and it *says* it's supposed to allow you to put these spacers and various cutters and/or embossers on a roller like a mini paint roller, lock a washer on the end with a wing nut and away you go, rolling out ribbons evenly cut.

WELL. icon_evil.gif

I don't think so!

So far all I'm getting is that when I put the spacers and cutters I want on it and attach the wing nut and try rolling the !%@#$^ thing, all it does when I roll it forward is that it tightens the wing nut and thus stops the roller from being free to roll. If I roll it the other direction, it loosens the wing nut and the spacers get too loose and sloppy.

I'm super annoyed. Does anyone have this, and what can you tell me? Am I missing something here? icon_evil.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.giftapedshut.gif

What I have had to do is make sure it's loose enough to roll when I get it assembled then you don't get that tight/loose thing happening and also apply a little crisco to the cutting wheels and that helps keep it moving a bit better!

It is a pia though!

I got one a while ago and got so annoyed I've gone back to using a ruler and pizza cutter. I have left the wing nut loose enough to turn but then the spacers move a bit and wobble so that the cut isn't really straight. I haven't tried the crisco trick but I will try thanks for the tip.

You don't want to put the wing nut on super tight. When you roll it, you want the Wilton on the handle to be facing up and you will push it away from you.

It is rather annoying. What I do is ensure that the spacers and cutters placed on the wheel go slightly past the plastic round thing that you thread them all on. This way the metal washer thing is flush with the spacer and rolls freely. If the washer is tight with the inner plastic round thing it will not roll. It seems to work for me this way, I hope I am explaining myself clearly enough, it's hard to articulate in words.

Is there one out there that is NOT made by Wilton? Maybe it would work better??

Oh that's wonderful - Thank you!! I made a cake recently and I had such a hard time with it...I measured so carefully but they were still uneven...This looks much more sturdy!!

Check out this thread that I started. These were just things in the craft section but for right now they work for me. I hope to buy the PME one someday but it's not on the list right now.

I have one and it works wonderful. I used it to make the bow on my gift box cake in my album.

Make sure the wingnut is not on too tight and roll with even pressure.

Glad it's not just me. I'll keep fiddling with it, but it's a pia that it doesn't work EXACTLY THE WAY THE PICTURE MAKES IT LOOK.

I shoulda known.

You know, that's not the first darn "handy dandy" thing Wilton has made that I have had issues with. I also have their sculpting set and that thing is a POS, both of them are IMO!!

If I do ever get an opportunity to use the roller/embosser again I will try lossening the wing nut some. The last time I tried that though it jusr rolled it's self right off!!!!!! icon_mad.gif Some things just aren't worth the trouble though you know!
