Welcome to Cake central. There are meringue based buttercreams that contain all butter. People have different opinions about the taste. There are at least three types, Swiss Meringue Buttercream (SMBC) Italian Meringue (IMBC) and French (FMBC)

I don't care for the plain, all shortening icing-decorators buttercream.

However, there is one recipe here in the recipe section called whipped cream buttercream. It is nice and fluffy, and although it is all shortening, it doesn't taste like it.

Go to the recipe link and search for buttercream in Frosting category. there are tons. Some all butter, some half and half. I like the half and half they taste good and decorate ok but, at least here, they get very shiny. If its just the taste you don't like try adding butter flavoring or lorann oils or more flavoring than the recipe says.

what ever you do don't buy butter flavouring. it is disgusting. i bought it and i regret it. the best thing to use is half shortening and half butter.
