Has anyone tried a cheesecake and cake combo? I know ge978 says she makes them all the time. Can someone tell me how they taste? And what flavor combinations would be good. Thanks!

I have made the Chocolate Fudge ribbon cake from Cake Mix Doctor (chocolate fudge cake with a cheesecake ribbon through it) and cheesecake mousse filling. I also made a chocolate fudge cake with a thin middle layer of actual cheesecake (bake a small cheesecake in a cake pan instead of traditional pan). Somehow chocolate and cheesecake are the best! Cheesecake also goes well with maple walnut cake, apple spice cake, and carrot cake.

I make a chocolate cake with a cheesecake middle. It is very good. I have not tried any other combinations, but I think a strawberry or raspberry with cheesecake middle would be good.

I got the idea from ge978. She says she just takes a cheesecake, already prepared, and places a cake layer on it. She frosts it with Rich's Whipped Topping. She's been so helpful! I've badgered her with TONS of questions.

I hope you didn't mind me posting how you make them. I noticed you posted it on a different thread.

The most popular demand in cake filling that I have is the cheesecake filling with rasp/or strawberrry filling Torte in 3 and fill one with cheesecake and one in rasp or straw. I use the jello cheesecake mix and add some bc to extend it and freeze the rest. I do it in large batches and bag in ziploc bags so I don't have to take it out all at one time.

I also make the cheesecake cake combo...I bake my cakes and my cheesecakes and just alternate layers and ice with cream cheese icing. Everyone seems to love it. I bake my cheesecakes with a cake bottom anyway so.. it's basically the same thing just more layers...

I've seen in the 101 Ways To Use A Cake Mix cookbook where you prepare a cake mix per the box directions and pour half the batter into a springform pan (the other half can be baked in a regular cake pan as an extra cake). You bake the cake for awhile (but you don't want to cook it all the way) and then you pour the cheesecake filling on top and finish baking. The cake part acts like the crust for the cheesecake.

What frosting/icing have been used by others for this? I have been wanting to make on since I saw this thread originally, and have an opportunity tonight, but am unsure BC is the right choice...

Thanks!

I make this all the time and just use the WASC cake and cheesecake for the bottom layer then raspberry filling and then a layer of cake iced with cream cheese buttercream. It tastes amazing together!
