I did this cake for my neighbor's birthday. its the first time i've really done striping, other than goofing around with it. i would like to know if the "pros" here on CC can give me any pointers, tips, etc. So next time i do a cake...it don't look quite so...yiick. TIA Jen
ok...it wont let me post the pic...the one i'm talking about is Angies Bear in my gallery, thanks so much.,
Hello
I checked the image; for a first attempt, the stripes look pretty good; I love the colors of your icing, very bright & vivid!.
The only tip I can offer is on how you are holding the piping bag; since your striped colors are not always in the same position (first there is blue in the center, then there's red in the center; some have white on the top, others don't)... I think what is happening is that you are turning the piping bag in your hand (probably as you squeeze out some icing, you then turn the bag to tighten it). To get the stripes consistent, keep the bag & tip in the same position, and instead of turning, just squeeze the icing down towards the tip & move your hand down, always keeping the same angle (bag/tip to base).
I hope that makes sense to you; if not feel free to ask questions;
(might be hard to see the border, but check out the bowling cake (STRIKE!) in my photos).
ciao for now.
