Fall Birthday Cake--First Timer!

I'm gearing up to make my first cake using MMF for my Mom's 50'th birthday party. I am planning on making a few practice cakes first. I need a cake to feed 20-25 guests, so I was considering doing a two-tiered cake. I want to do chocolate MMF if its possible and decorate with MMF leaves. My question is . . . How do I get the leaves to have a pretty sheen to them? I was thinking of making the leaves in rich colors--deep reds, coppers, golds . . . can anyone give me suggestions? I have been pouring through the galleries and have lots of ideas but I need more technical help. Thanks!
Sounds like fun. When you make the MMF, don't use all the sugar. Hold back 1/4 to 1/3. You may not need all of it. You can sift some over the mass as you knead.
The get the leaves shiny, you can dust them with dark colored lustre dust available on line and some decorating stores. One the cutout leave is dried firm, brush on the dust.
Pretty, I love your cake! Its so perfect . . . I'd have to make more than a few practice cakes to get anywhere close to that.
JMT: What was that about steaming after using the luster dust????
