I am doing the Grooms cake for my brother's wedding and I need to know if there is anyway possible to transport the cake already assembled to the rehearsal dinner..It is a 2 hour drive and I am in the rehearsal so I really don't have the time to assemble and decorate there.

thanks

Hi and welcome to CC!

Make sure you use a center dowel and drive very carefully. No sudden stops!!! Put non-skid material under the box so the cake won't slide.

When doing the center dowel this is how I learned to do it from wonderful SquirrellyCakes(a member here). Make a hole in the cake board for the tope tier the size of a dowel. Place a long center dowel in the middle of the bottom tier and then lower your top tier down onto the bottom. Others will tell you that you can drive a sharpened dowel down thru the cakes (and swear by it) but I will not chance having a cake board buckle on me and ruin my cake.

Good luck!

I would get a box that will hold the bottom tier's cake board and cut the lid off. That way the sides are protected.Just make sure the cake is on a completly level surface (no back seat) with nothing around it that can fall/bump into the cake. Also make sure you put the non-skid material underneath the box so it won't slide.

Yes. Use the center dowel in addition to the dowels on each tier. Put the cake on a piece of covered plywood. I used to use the Wilton plates, but they actually make the cake move while in transit. Then place a blanket on the back of the flat part of the hatchback. Then place the cake on top of that. It cushions the ride

Also, make certain, if it doesn't have a top on the box, that you protect it from the sun. Even in an air conditioned car, the sun can be brutal on a cake. If you have to make a pit stop and you cannot leave the car running with the AC on, I would do it quickly.
