Question, i have never used luster dust before, and I want to use it on my fondant bow. Do I apply the dust before I assemble the bow or after? And would it be best to mix it with a liquid or just brush it on dry?

I would brush it before just to make it easier on yourself for getting in all the nooks and crannies, I would also mix it with some clear vanilla extract or some other alcohol and apply it, all depends on the look you're going for.....I find that brushing it on dry works well too but you use a ton of it! I always brush it on dry on chocolate but with fondant I usually airbrush it on or paint it on with extract mixed in.

There are three new products from BakeryCrafts--pearl glaze, silve glaze and gold glaze. The come premixed and are pretty easy to use and from my experience give great results.

Do you paint these on like you do luster dusts? What is their coverage like? I've never heard of them, although I use the dusts all the time. Sounds like something Imight want to try - thanks for the heads up icon_smile.gif

I usually paint the loops before I assemble the bows if I'm wet painting. If I'm dry painting, then I do it after assembly. It all depends on how much lead time I have to do the bow.

These products just came out about a month ago. They're like a pre-mixed paint that you brush on.

I just started using luster dust but the one bow I used it on I painted it on dry before I assembled and I then just had to touch up a few spots once it was assembled. It gave a nice effect though doing it dry.

Thanks for the tips. I wish I would have known about the glaze - that sounds pretty easy. How do you hear about new products like these?

I just bought some pearl glaze from my local cake supplier and they said that you can add any color to it and it gives a nice glaze look or you can use as it. Can't wait to try.

I happened across them recently online. Don't you need a license number to order from Baker Crafts?

I just finished putting it on my bow !!!!LOVE IT!!! I mixed it with the clear vanilla and brushed it on. Next question, to put it on the rest of my fondant design , do I attach the decoration to the fondant, then brush it on after its on the cake? Just curious because the bow got a little sticky after I put the dust on.

Don't know about a license number to order from BakeryCrafts, but possibly so. I set up my account some time ago. I am licensed as a business with my state and have both food service and catering licenses, also.
