ok, what do you think...
i am making the cake today for a friend, nothing fancy. i am going to make the cake in the 9x13 like it says, then cut two flip flops out of it. should i make two skinny (height wise) flip flops, or just stack the two cut out on top of one another to make one flip flop??
what looks nicer, thinker and one, or skinner and two? icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks for any input on the suggestion icon_lol.gif

I made a single flip flop and it was two layers tall with filling in the center.

I did two when I made my flip flop cake.....just one makes me wanna look around for the other icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

dont get me wrong...the single flip flop cakes in the gallery are adorable... thumbs_up.gif

you could do a search of flipflops and see them together on one page ( single and a pair) and see what you think icon_wink.gif

i carved these two from a 10x10 square. they were almost 3 inches high once filled with two layers of filling and iced on top. if you doubled it, you'd have one pretty tall flip flop unless your filling was very very thin and you didnt torte them.

You certainly can make a second cake if you want to fill a double layer, I guess it would depend on how many people you want to feed. If I were making a pair of smaller flip flops single layer I would want to use them as accents and make another cake to go along with it, because they would be so small and thin and wouldn't feed very many people. They probably look more like the real shoe when they are thinner, but you couldn't get enough to double layer two of them from one 9"X13" cake. Here is a single flip flop double layer, now I made the bamboo cake to go along with this because it was serving quite a few people. But even without, if you are using accents pieces like the sand bucket and pail with cookie crumb sand I don't think it looks lost at all.

I made 2 carving out of a 1/2 sheet...I did not put a filling in it, but you could tort and fill each one.

My opinion...2 flip flops, and shorter and fatter vs. thinner and longer.

thanks you guys. i really like two flip flops better than one, but b/c i am short on time- i am going to go with the one flip flop. i have to have it ready in 2 hours, and i just took the cake out of the oven. if it were for someone other than us and her, dh, and kids- (if i were making it for someone to take to a party) i would do the pair, just b/c it looks more "balanced".

to the ones who posted their pictures, they are wonderful! very, very pretty! thumbs_up.gif
