Aha! This is the cake you did for the couple who wanted 200 people but reckoned they could pay you practically nothing?! What happened in the end? Did you feel taken for granted? My theory is that we all do it once... In the immortal words of Samantha from Sex in the City:
Flip me badly once, shame on you. Flip me badly twice - shame on me!
(obviously she didn't use the word 'flip')

I don't make this kind of cake but if I ever did I would charge between £300 and £400 (double that for US dollars)

Hi again indydebi. It's the same purple wedding cake you made a post about last night. Maybe I should post a link instead.

I don't see all of the sizes listed in the description for the cake. I only see the sizes for the big cake.
So..
What sizes are all of the cakes?
Also, was there filling in the cakes?
Was the strawberry cake a box mix or a fresh scratch recipe?

For this cake my base price would be $2.25/serving for only buttercream filling. But without knowing the above answers I can't give you a $ I would have charged.

400.00 and that is with THEM, renting the fountain, providing the toppers, and the flowers

leily, The second cake is made from a mix, they are 10 inch square and a 6 inch round. There is no filling just the same frosting that it is frosted with.

emmascakes, Yes, this is the one. I have a cake to deliver and some things to do at church but when I get back I'll have to tell you ALL about it. What an interesting night.

$447.75 for cake only. Not including rental of fountain/plates/pillars etc.

Also does not include delivery/setup more than 7miles away, otherwise there is an additional delivery charge.

About $600, it looks pretty simple in design and my buttercream wedding cakes start at $3.50 per serving.

Ok,, so here goes. Last week I called to check and see if it was still on and see if they had someone to cut the cake. In the beginning I informed them that it was our last night of bible school and I didn't want to miss. She acted like it was the first time she heard it. She said no problem. We will find someone. Friday at 5 gets here and I am setting up the cake. Another woman from my church is setting up the food (she wasn't supposed to stay either). Cake is up and I get ready to walk out the door and notice the woman in the kitchen is very upset. All of our "helpers" were MIA. We discussed leaving but our hearts wouldn't let us do it. The two of us worked our butts off. I left at 10:00 and there was still a lot to be cleaned. Luckily the lady who was suposed to have had my kids for an hour and a half didn't mind keeping them and told me to do what I had to do and not to worry. She even brought them home and helped me clean my kitchen( boy that cake made a mess) so I could start on the cake I had for today. What an awesome friend!

Why was the woman in the kitchen upset? Who was she? What's MIA? How much did they pay you for the cake? What was their reaction to it? Seems to me that the bride and mother of bride were pretty selfish people making you guys all miss your evening and the knock-on impact this hadon your families. Is she the kind of person who acts all useless and disorganised to get everyone else to do the work for her?

What you should or could have gotten for this cake really depends on the area you live in. For instance, two people can each make a cake a that look exactly the same however, they may not be able to get the same price.

Try finding people in you own area or similar area to find you what's a realistic price for you.

I would say $500 to $600 dollars easy, and that is not including delivery, set-up, pillers , & fountain. Those things are extra.

How much did you charge? If you don't mind me asking... icon_redface.gif

The woman in the kitchen was upset because they had no one there to help her. She is another member of our church. (the wedding was not held at our church due to bible school) She also was only supposed to drop off her stuff and leave. MIA is Missing in Action. They loved the cake and they paid icon_redface.gif 250.00 icon_redface.gif for it. The mother of the bride is usually a very sweet, loving and giving person. I am thinking a lot of her actions are due to good legal drugs she is on. About 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding she was hit by a car while she was walking in her neighborhood. Normally she is the type of person who does it all. To top it all off, I was a little embarrassed. I was dressed in a cotton short sleeved shirt, khaki capris and tennis shoes, ready for bible school. I was definitely not looking the wedding server part!

I almost forgot to add, a few things on the cake were given to me by the MOB. The fountain (she paid half) the stairs and the columns. I wasn't too thrilled with the fountain. I had issues with the place where the light bulb goes into the bottom of it and the button that turns on the lights kept falling into the bottom part. I believe it may be going back to where we got it.
