I am a great fan of fondant. I love the taste. I now have my samples of Fondx and love the flavor but some of you have said it's too soft. I have Satin ice but have not used it yet. I have several chocolate cakes to do in August and would really appecitate your thoughts

Could you please tell me what your favorite fondant is?
What is your favorite:
Brand?
Flavor?
Which one is easiest to use?

Thank you so much. I really appreciate all of the talented people on this list.

I think (based on reading 2 years worth of discussions on fondant) that you will find that most people here prefer Satin Ice. I use it exclusively, except for occassionally when I make Toba Garrett's chocolate fondant.

I like the Satin Ice for a number of reasons -- it looks nice, handles beautifully and tasted good. While I prefer to make from scratch, until I master a recipe for fondant that gives me consistent results, I'm staying with the Satin Ice. icon_smile.gif

Fondx for taste and Satin Ice for texture/workability.

Satin Ice when I need red and black fondant - I buy them pre-colored.

Choco-Pan Noire for dark chocolate fondant. Pettinice chocolate tastes good too - like toosie rolls.

Definitely Satin Ice. Besides white and chocolate it also comes in pink, red, black, purple and a few other colors. That's just what I have on hand now. This morning I needed a fuscia color to make an edible ribbon. Grabbed the pink, kneaded in some purple and done!

I started using MMF and loved it but found it a tad over sweet. I just made my first cake with satin ice and loved it. It gave a nice matt finish and handled beautifully. I like MMF but find that I end up using more crisco and that gives it a slight sheen. Of course MMF is much cheaper to make. HTH

I have made a couple of batches of MMF and like it....it is cheap to make, tastes great on sugar cookies. I purchased Satin Ice over the weekend because I didn't feel like making MMF and I absolutely LOVE IT! It is very easy to work with and tastes great!

I love FondX! It is a little softer than some but I like that because I don't have to kill my arms kneading it out, and it works fine for me. We had some SatinIce at work that did terrible for us, it was way too soft and bubbled up but maybe the environment was too warm, not sure.

personally I find satin ice has too strong a vanilla flavor. I make my own. but satin ice is easy to work with.

Does anyone know of any Canadian sources for Satin Ice? I've tried googling it, but can't seem to find anything.

How bad is the shipping on this stuff? I'm afraid, lol.
I can't find anyone local that sells it, but I'm betting shipping is going to put me out of my comfort zone as far as price goes.

Play around the shopping carts on different websites to see what shipping will be to where you live. It will depend on how far the stores are to you and the quantity you are purchasing.

Also, I would suggest calling www.satinfinefoods.com and asking them for a dealer close to you. I found a wholesale food store near me that I didn't even know about (no retail front).

The whole reason I go through DecoPac is because the s&h is only $27 no matter how many lbs I get. I live in Alaska, so that is a heck of a deal. And it only takes 3 days usually through FedEx. You can pay a little more and get overnight service. HTH

I make MMF for all the cakes, but I buy my dark colors in satin ice. I find, however, that covering cakes in it is tricky.....it can crack, which does not happen with the homemade stuff.

The MMF is great when you add a bit of crisco to the melted marshmallows. It is pliable, and nice tasting.

For chocolate fondant, I use Albert Uster Imports....it is so excellent tasting, and great to work with. Free shipping on orders over 100.00, I believe, so it may be worth it!

I just swiched from Wilton to Fondx. I prefer the taste of the chocolate fondants, but found them hard to work. I think the satin ice is tastier than the fondx, but for the difference I found in price, the fondx is tasty and for me they work about the same. I love these threads, I always find new places to shop.
