I made a n "Old Fashioned" chocolate cake from a recipe that I found online. It called for powdered cocoa and boiling water. Well, all said and done, the cake turned out gummy. Any ideas as to what happened?
Maybe you undercooked it? Or forgot some of the levening ingredient(baking soda or baking powder)?
The recipe said cook 55-60 min. I actually ended up cooking it for nearly 1.5 hrs. before it appeared to be done. I put in the baking soda. ??? Do you think the cup of boiling water contributed to the gumminess?
I think the boling water is to disolve the cocoa powder. Maybe your baking powder or baking soda ingredients were off?
yep that's what Euphoriabakery suggested as well. Maybe, I will try the recipe again and get new baking powder. I was just really disappointed. Thanks.
I don't think it was the boiling water. I use a recipe that calls for boiling water to add to the cocoa and I wouldn't use any other chocolate cake recipe. I agree that it maybe the baking powder.
