i want to send my mom a cake for her birthday in November. I need to ship from Anchorage Alaska to Portland Oregon, over 3,000 miles. is this even possible? how would you package it???? i've seen someone here send one once... impart your great wisdom on me????? ![]()
Short of buying a plane ticket, there isn't much you can do. If you use a dense cake and very simple fondant decorations, you can wrap it in plastic and double pack it in a box. Otherwise, there is not way to guarantee it doesn't get turned upside down.
While I have never shipped a cake myself. I have heard of someone using a chuck of dry ice in the packing. My ONE MAJOR CONCERN would be the recipient. People who have never worked with dry ice dont know the dangers. Mishandeling can cause serious skin burns. It might however "help" get your cake there. Like I said I have never tried it.
There has to be a way to do it because there are alot of companies that will ship wedding cakes. Just look online. I would say that it would have to be made of fondant. I would call ups and ask if they have any ideas you may be surprise. Also check out one of those stores that packages stuff for you then sends it. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
