I am new to this site and motivated by all the beautiful cakes I have seen. I am attempting a castle cake for my grandson in a couple of weeks. I live in a rural area and have been unable to find a "press" for bricks. I could mail order but probably won't get it in time. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make bricks short of hand drawing??? I am planning to use buttercream icing.

You can use buttercream with a round tip and press flat. See this photo for inspiration, czyadgrl did an awesome job.

long skewers pressed in can make horizontal lines

them make vertical w/ toothpick or short piece of skewer.

(any craft stores somewhere w/in reasonable driving distance? -- check polyclay aisle for small impression mats)

If skewers aren't readily available, spaghetti would be a good option.
