I would love to make my sister a birthday cake that is Dorthy's Ruby Red Shoes. No she is not a kid. She is going to be 50 years old but says the movie THE WIZZARD OF OZ still scares her. So it's a joke in our family to give her things from that movie.

Does anyone know I could go about doing this? Maybe a pattern I can carve the cake?? What would you use to make the shoes sparkle?

Any help would be great.

I can't help with the shoe pattern, except for maybe freehanding a pattern. Are you planning on a 3D look, if so you could get adventurous and try to sculpt it.

As for the sparkle, wilton carries red glitter that can go on top of cakes. That may work.

The Wiz of Oz is my FAVORITE movie in the world and I can't watch it enough even though I have several copies of the movie!!!! There are sooo many decorators on this site that have carved shoes out of gumpaste. I don't think the shoes are cake, but the shoes they have done are amazing. Good luck.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, oddly. I was thinking red sugar crystals over red fondant. Haven'texperimented with thta yet, but it ws my first thought.

I molded some slippers for my W of Oz cake out of fondant, but did not get the sparkle I wanted. I saw boween recently did some ruby red slippers that really sparkled. Check out her cake.

What's that stuff that looks like really tiny pieces of wrapping paper? Is that the glitter?

That would be good to make the shiny crystals with...

boween said she uses red disco dust on her slippers. I personally don't know what that is, but I am sure someone does. Good Luck.

Sorry, I cannot help you with the pattern for the shoes.

Please allow me to suggest that you either get some red sanding sugar or take a hammer to some red lollipops to make the sparkles, then add the disco dust if you wish.

I would think that if you brushed on some red luster dust that wouls give you some added sparkle along with red edible glitter. Can't wait to see your cake. This is one of my favorite movies. Good luck.
