Hello all this is my first time posting here and I would like to share my story of first time cake. I have been so excited about making a cake for my daughters birthday. I bought all kinds of tips and colorings and read read read. well I used to do a little light decorating at Kroger about ten years ago and thought I still had it. I am an artist and I thought I could takel this feet easily. Sorry I stray from the story. This morning I got up thinking today would be the best time to start my cake sense my little girls birthday is tommorow. I get everything together and I am so excited to do this thinking of how everyone would be bragging on my cake. Well The first egg I dropped in the floor I started going down hill from there. Next my mixer burned up, and smoked up the kitchen. I finally got the cake in the oven disappointed thus far. After the cake came out of the oven my excitement came back I let it cool and started iceing it the cake looked horriable. My sister in law walks through the door and starteled me and my cake that I was working so hard on went crashing to the floor and when that cake hit the floor it splattered everywhere. It took me an hour of crying and scrubbing to clean it up. Well when I calmed down enough to go back to the store and get 2 more cake mixes. Come home and realize I don't have any eggs. I go back to the store and come home to find my eggless cake baking in the oven, my DH put it together and in the oven with nothing to keep it from sticking. Well I pieced it back together and froze it and started iceing again. Guess what the thing looks like throwup and I have umpteen guest arriving in the morning and someone stole my money and there is no way to go by another cake I am so fed up I may never make another cake again.
I am sorry you are going through all that. Its incredible how sometimes it seems the world is against us. I was going to tell you to go buy a cake for tomorrow and then you could practice during the next year for your daughter's next birthday but then I remembered you mentioning that someone stole your money. I really dont know what to say to you except have faith and you'll see that everything is going to change and things will get better. 
Sorry to hear of your situation. Do bake again as I've made heaps of mistakes too but things turn out.
Could you by any chance make cake balls and shape them like a german wedding cake or something decorative like that. It probably doesn't look like throw up as I've heard on here heaps of times we are own worse critics.
