Angry & Frustrated...house Broken Into Again !!!
Lounge By freddie Updated 11 Aug 2006 , 7:33am by mistiek2006
I am so angry, got back from camping this morning with my teenage sons only to find that someone had broken into our house! They broke the kitchen window and took the screen out and proceeded to enter. This is the second time in two years !!! last time they broke through a basement window into a locked storage room and broke the door from its frame into the main basement area, and stole all our electronics, computer equipment, stereos, t.v., Dvds, Game consoles such as Xbox, PS1 & 2, gameboys, game cartridges, Jewelry, then they took suitcases and backpacks to carry it all in. And what upset me the most is they stole my Blankie, a blanket my son won at a Pow-Wow dancing when he was 3, so sentimentally this hurt the most and was impossible to replace, the other was the pictures I had on my computer that i hadn't downloaded onto CDs.
Now 2 years later after getting bars on the basement windows and changing other things, we get B&E again, this time it was less theft, more personal, they came in and stole my sons new specially made Zero skateboard worth a few hundred and all the DVDs and Game Cartridges, and CDs obviously it was someone that couldn't carry much according to the police. Beginning to feel we aren't supposed to have these things !!! It is such an invasion of privacy that someone has been in your home and touching ones stuff just creeps me out !!! My boys are so upset it breaks my heart !
So now I have to get my brother over to help me buy and replace kitchen window. The worst is I have to go out of town tonight for work and will be gone three days nervous about leaving the house after this !!! Think I will get a friend to stay here with the boys so someone is here when they are at work as one works nights and the other works afternoons to put them at ease since this just happened...
Guess I am going to have to get an alarm system didn't want to as I know my one son will be setting it off as he is notorious for being off in his own world when he comes home from work thinking about the girlfriend and such and won't get the code right as these kind of things just don't stick in his head !!!
Sorry just angry and frustrated and had to vent, well I am off to fix window and get ready to head out of town, wish I could put off this trip but of course that isn't possible .
Freddie so sorry for you and the boy's. Having been through this before never makes it happening again, easy. As if there was such a thing. I'm sure some of us can personaly relate to your concerns and fears. You have a good plan thought out for now and I hope your trip away doesn't cause you or the boy's to much stress. Yes it seems as though an alarm may be the next step. When you do have it installed, find out how much it will cost when the alarm is accidently set off. My dad had to pay out $100 for every accidental set off after 3, per month. My little brother quickly learned how far his allowance did not go and he remembered the code real quick.
So sorry to hear of your troubles, Freddie, you are such a good friend here! My mother and I were broken into years ago during the holidays and again in the summertime so I know exactly how you feel about feeling violated. You and your boys are in my prayers tonight.
alarms are actually good to get, they protect u, and they can also save money on ur house incurance. so i think its VERY worth it, and it makes u feel about 100 times more secure..
im sorry this happend to u..
people do HORRIBLE things, but karma will get back at them

unfortunantly I know how you feel. I'm so sorry for you and your boys. I bet it was some kid(s) who did it because they just stole your boys stuff this time. Another robber would go for electronics and jewelry. Get an alarm system and feel somewhat safer. I hope you are doing better.
Get a big dog! Maybe he will bite their little butts off. I know the feeling is a horrible one, have been there. Have you checked around the pawn shops, sometimes the police don't have the time to do that. Thought about a reward? One of those little turds might turn in someone for the dough. It sounds like you will have to go the alarm route.
So sorry. We have never been broken into but a couple months ago one of our push mowers disappeared from the yard.
The thing we couldn't figure out is why they took that of all things since we have a child size dirt bike, generator and other things worth far more than a 5 year old mower. We live in a reservation area and they've had alot of problems with theft around here.
One of my husband's friends families had several stereos stolen out of cars one night while they were at home, the confusing thing about that was this guys dad had a gun in his truck and they never touched it.
They were a little disappointed about that because it would have upped the charge since they caught them and got their stuff back.
Before getting an alarm, check with your Police Department and find out how much they charge for Police response to false alarms. Most cities and towns charge a hefty fee for coming out to a false alarm. Some give you a couple of freebies, some dont.
Also, depending on the department, they may have a Community Service Officer that will come out and give you a free home safety/security survey. Basically, they'll survey your home and tell you what you can do to make it less attractive to thieves and make it more secure.
As always, take a few hours and record the serial numbers off of elctronics and other items. Engrave items with your drivers license number...this number never changes and only law enforcement has access to the info it contains. Stolen items that do not have a serial number can be entered into NCIC (a nationwide database that all law enforcement uses to enter stolen property) if you have an owner applied number engraved on the item, such as your drivers license number. Officer come across the items and run the number, it shows up as stolen, property recovered...people arrested. It's also the only way you'll get your stuff back that shows up at the local pawn shop!
Make a home video of your belongings. It's great for reporting to Police and when it comes time for insurance.
Often, you wont know something is missing until days or weeks later...when you go to use it and it's not there.
Hope that helps!
Umm.. Just an observation. From the sound of it it sounds like a teenager. They took skateboard, cd's, DVD's and games. They did it when you were out of town. I would suspect if your son was excited and bragged at school then a kid knew and siezed the moment.... Just something to keep in mind...
OMG...I'm sooo sorry this happened to you!
Coincidentally...I'm wide awake at 4am because someone tried to come in our back door just before 3am! DH went out and walked to property (with the pistol) but saw nothing. With all the woods around our house, they could've been there the whole time, though. I'm still freaked out and can't sleep because the back door is only about 15 feet away from the couch, which is where I was sleeping!! I woke up to the sound of the door knob being turned back and forth and the door being pushed on hard. We live out in the country and around here, if your house gets broken into (which is extremely rare) it's usually by someone you know....like if someone owes money to someone else or has a problem with you. We have no idea who would try to break in here or why...it's not like we're rich or have lots of stuff they could get money for. I have a really dark feeling about it...'cause they could just break into our shed if they wanted stuff they could sell or take to the pawn shop, like tools. But they were trying to get inside....that's bugging me.
There's also brand new motion lights out there that didn't even come on at all....and that's the second time it's happened in the past 2 weeks. The other time they didn't come on, I'd heard a noise on the window. I think someone is up to something and I'm totally freaked out and don't know what to do other than get really good at handling the pistol with some serious target practice.
Sorry to hijack your thread, Freddie
I just can't believe that this happened to us tonight and then I come here to CC to get it off my mind for a bit and come across this post, of all the posts here! ![]()
I agree that this last B&E seems like it was a teenager from what they took...could even be someone one of your sons knows that's been in the house before.
Oh my...what is going on here.
Freddie and JennT you guys are not alone.
Last night was really freaky for me too. We stay in a security village and at around 7:30pm the lights in three streets went out. That was nothing strange 'cause that does happen from time to time. Normally it would come back on after about and hour but this time it stayed off till about 12:30am. We have an outside body heat detecting security system and at around 1:30am the alarm goes crazy. The security company calls to find out if they should come around and we say yes 'cause we were not testing. They arrive after about 2 mins and look around. Apparently, the electric fencing (which goes around the village) on our side of the had been tampered with and whoever was trying to get into our home jumped back out again. We stay next to an open field so I think they just ran off when the alarm went off. Needless to say I could not sleep after that. I'm still a little shaky.
Oh well, as long as you all are fine and no one got hurt.

Just got back to town and saw the responses,Thanks everyone for your advice, and concern, it helps to have a place to go and vent. I also have suspicion that a teenager that used to be a friend of a friend of my sons who has been in our house and is jealous of my son and his friends friendship did this. We mentioned it to the police but as of yet they haven't talked to him.
Dale thanks for the direction and advice, I am going to look into that right away. I have already marked our electronics although the drivers liscense number is a great idea. I have a record with digital pictures on a disc for our house insurance, did this after the first breakin.
JennT and SScakes, Sorry to hear about the scares you both had glad nothing further happened, it is awful to not feel safe and secure in ones own home. This world is definately getting out of control...I hate feeling insecure and suspicious of people !!!
If you are worried about your kids forgetting to enter a code and setting of an alarm, try to get keypad locks instead of regular locks, it may help remind them to enter in the second code. ADT has a system that we used at work that beeped when you entered until you entered a code to turn it off. If the code wasn't entered in 3 min then a real alarm went off.
