All along I've been thinking that I was supposed to be making a pink and green baby shower cake this weekend. Well the person in charge of the shower just told me it is supposed to be red and green. The link here is to the baby bedding. She gave me the link today. How do I get this shade of red? Do I just add a little black or will that make it burgandy? She kept calling the green lime, but it looks more sage to me? What do you think? I just don't want the cake to look like a Christmas cake! icon_confused.gif

Uff that is a difficult one, the colors I see on your link really look like Christmas colors to me (just what you are scared about icon_wink.gif ).
You mean for the red, the really red on the kitchen dowel or the pink-red (looks like a muted pink to me, in that case you should add some brown to it). The green is also difficult, if you want to go for the lime green, just add some yellow to your green. For the sage green add some brown.

Maybe you should talk to her again, I think pink and green would be so much nicer for a baby shower....

Good luck!!

I like that bedding but yes, I definitely think it is more of a sage green. And the pink/red is muted - I would try adding some brown just like Tartacadabra suggested. HTH

Ok, I will give the brown a try. That sounds like a better idea!
She said that I could do the pink and green if I wanted to since that was what she told me the first time. However, she is using red lady bugs to decorate. It's kind of confusing... I may go ahead and show her my original drawing and see what she thinks. Maybe I can tweak it a little.

Thanks for helping!

That is tough. I did a strawberry theme for my wedding, with red and green being my colors and I had to be REALLY careful what shades I picked and allowed. I think this bedding is close to exactly the shades I picked!

On a side note, did you see how much it costs to buy that bedding! Goodness baby stuff costs alot! How long do kids really stay in the cribs? And in my experienc3e the sheets do not stay nice for long, you don't use the bumpers past a couple months, and you're not supposed to use the compforter at all, it is just for decoration. I hate baby companies-it is ridiculous how much they charge for things.

Okay, according to my graphic artist abilities, which I haven't used in 3 years icon_lol.gif it looks like a sage green and rust red shade. HTH.

definitely sage - wilton makes a moss green color gel that would work great for this

and a rust red - i'd use red/red with a touch of brown (or even blue/purple) - and i mean just a touch to darken it a little

I'm making a cake in September with the same theme for my SIL. The colors look like a country red and country green in person - not quite sure how to mix them but figured I would cross that bridge when the time came! If you figure it out - i'd love to know for future reference!

Good Luck!

Instead of brown, you may want to try ivory. My decorating intructor said it's the best way to give colors that muted, "antique" look. She used the difference between Disney Pooh and classic Pooh as an example. Good luck!

I have a bottle of Cake Craft coloring called Flame red that might work for this color. It comes out with a slight hint of orange in the red.

Here is a color chart from Cake Craft brand coloring. The flame red I was talking about above is on here.

That is not even close to lime green! Maybe light avacado coloring?

Thanks for all of the ideas. I've got some extra icing from a cake a made this weekend. I guess I can experiment with that to see what works. I would hate to wait and experiment on the fondant and ruin it. icon_surprised.gif

I thought I would use the Wilton daisy cutter to make flowers. If you're not familiar with it, it has 3 sizes of daisies. I thought that I could make maybe 2 or 3 shades of the red to cut out different sizes of daisies and stack them. How do you think this would work?

I really appreciate all of the help! You guys are the best! thumbs_up.gif

That will look great! I ordered a frame through creative memories that i'm going to decorate with polymer clay to match the cake (at least that's my plan) when I make mine. I was going to use daisy cutters too. Can't wait to see your finished product - isn't that an adorable set!

The brown mixed into the red did the trick! I used fern green to get a sage color. Now, they changed their mind again and want pink and lime. I was actually getting excited about the red and sage. Oh well! Thanks for all of the help!
