I have never used the dowels for rolling out my cookies but I think I need to because my cookie dough never comes out even. No matter how hard I try, the middle stays thick and the edges are thinner. My question is: What thickness of dowel do I need to purchase to produce a thick cookie? I've never measured but my favorite cookies are the ones that turn out really thick & heavy. Since dowels are so inexpensive, maybe I will buy a few different sizes. What do you use?

I use 3/8" dowels because I like thick cookies as well.

I bought these rubber band spacers, plus two of their 2" rolling pins so that I wouldn't have to keep changing the bands. I really like them.

If the edges of you cookies are coming out thinner, it would appear that the dough is spreading before it has had a chance to firm up. Try freezing the dough if you are not already freezing it. If you are freezing it try leaving the cutouts in the freezer a bit longer.

As for the thickness fo my cookies, I generally make my cookie cutouts slightly thicker than the cookie pop sticks. They are so rich that I don't think thicker would be better. Remember you don't really need to stick with dowels you can use just about any object that you may have laying around in your kitchen or house. CD/DVD cases, unused picture frames etc. Just disinfect them and experiment.

I'll bump the mini how to I did showing how I use the cookie pop sticks.

Hope this helps.

Yep, I agree with Cake Princess.....I took two CD cases, wrapped them in plastic wrap, and used them to roll on before I bought the dowels.
