I am at work right now and when I left the house this morning I FORGOT to take out my icing out of the fridge to sit out and soften today. I have to decorate (2) cakes tonight. Does anyone know any hints how to soften the icing in about an hour or less?

Thanks ~ Jennifer

First: W E L C O M E !

warning -- this site is addicting!

------------------------------

it will soften very fast once out of the fridge.

can put it in the mixer bowl again (unless you're like me and it's still in the bow) and run the beater through it with a towel that's been soaked in hot water wrapped around the outside (tho' I did see Duff one use a blow torch!)

it should soften in an hour just sitting on the counter. might help to divide it into two bowls if it is a lot of icing

I do short bursts in the microwave - 20 - 30 seconds at a time checking inbetween. As you can tell - i've forgotten to take mine out several times!

I also put mine in the microwave for short periods of time... and if I leave it in the metal mixing bowl I have also put it in the oven on warm for about 5 minutes and blend with my hand mixer. It's good to go after that.

A hairdryer aimed at the bowl while your mixer is going works too.

Setting it in a bowl of warm water might soften it quickly without getting it too soft.

I just did this last night! I set it out when I put my cupcakes in the oven and it was soft by the time they were cool and ready to frost! icon_wink.gif
