If anyone have any other ideas how I can make water and what I would use please let me know. I have heard of others using piping gel, but I dont like the way it taste, but its very cute on the cake.

Hi,

When I do a beach or tropical themed cake I use brown sugar for the sand you could even use your tips to make a tiny sand castle. I also tend use blue candy coloring for the water it makes for a more vibrant color

Hello and welcome to Cake Central. Thee is a recipe for Piping Gel in the recipes section here on Cake Central or click on the link below.

I would flavor the recipe with whatever you like, perhaps coconut?

As for the sand, I have used crushed graham crackers and/or raw brown sugar.

For the blue color, I would just experiment by adding more blue until you reach the hue you desire.

Good Luck and please post a picture of your completed cake when you are done for all of us to admire.

For the water color, I would start by adding small amounts of Royal Blue until you get the shade you want. You could even add some forest green (just a hint) to get a more ocean-like look.

I looked at the sand on the cake you listed, and it looks like a hint of brown (soft brown). But, is it bc? I used vanilla wafers for sand -- others use graham crackers or sugar.

Piping gel really is great though -- know you said you don't like the taste, but it really is the best for replicating the water.

Good luck! icon_smile.gif

Thanks everyone for the replies as I tested out some icing with the royal blue and I really didnt use much, but the icing color was still too dark of a blue for water.

Is there another color wilton gel that I can buy to achieve a nice blue water.
