hey is sugar syrup used as crumb coating too? When I worked in a bakery, the decorator would use sugar syrup on a pastry brush and brush over the cake before she started icing it. Is that the same?

Never have done it.

just recently did I give crumb coating a try. Now, I wouldn't ice a cake with out doing it. In the long run, I think it makes icing easier, especially if it is a chocolate cake.

hey lionladydi. I live about an hour south of Kansas City. In Adrian, very small town. Where is Willow Springs? Oh, and I love your tag line!! icon_lol.gif

I'm 79 miles southeast of Springfield--about 35 miles from the Arkansas line.
I've probably been through Adrian. What highway is it on?

Always here also. I can see if there is any area that has an imperfection and the final coat is always perfect.

I was crumb-coating before I knew what it was called. It makes the process so much easier and the end product looks more professional (to me).

Before I started decorating about 2 months ago, I had never even heard of a crumb coat. My frosting was never smooth and always had crumbs in it. I heard about crumb coating in my Wilton 1 class- now I'll never go back! Icing is now smooth and no crumbs!
