Hey everyone. Has anyone out there tried using stencils on crusting buttercream icing? I'm sure that you can use them and spray on a color but I was wondering if anyone has actually tried spreading buttercream over the stencil? I've come across a few plastic stencils that I would love to try but I thought that I would see if anyone else has tried them on buttercream first. If you have, how did it turn out? Thank ya much!!!!!

i havent but i read that someone did on another thread and it came out ok but you have to be really careful not to smudge the buttercream with the stencil. goodluck, definately post your pic

I did it on crusting cream cheese frosting using gel paste and vanilla. I think I have a picture of my daughters cake in my pics of the chinese symbols. I used a clean make-up sponge and dabbed it on. I came out good but I think I will do better next time. I did a practice with the frosting on a piece of wax paper but the stencil was too thin and smudged through. So a good-heavy stencil would work better if you can find one. Good Luck.

I have not tried either. Let us know how it works if you do it.
