I use the sanatize setting on my dishwasher for sanitizing items that we use such as canning jars when we do pickles and on my tips and cake pans.

My items are in a rollable drawer unit I purchased at staples to keep everything seperated from my everyday life.

I like the plastic sweater containers for cake boards and I keep other items such as dowls or anything that might get put in the cake in a ziploc back to keep them clean and sterile.

I wash as much as I can in the dishwasher and then dip them in bleach water. I think it's something like a Tbs per sink of water...Also use bleach water to wipe down all surfaces before baking/decorating.

I do soak my tips in vinegar before washing also to help get the goop off.

Also, if pans don't fit into the sanitizer sink, I put them in the oven and bake the germs off icon_evil.gif

I wash my tips in hot soapy water with a little bleach in it, as well as all my pans. I keep those Clorox wipes under the sink and I usually wipe down the counters before & after I cook too. Just in case.... icon_biggrin.gif

Too funny..... someone who washes dishes like I do....... I never understood why anyone would try to clean a dish in water that's full of food scraps etc.......... YUCH (not meaning to offend anyone). And definately air dry for me...... lint fuzz....... yuch

If your sanitizing solution smells like bleach, it is too strong. If it is eating up your hands, it is too strong. You could give someone a food borne illness by not sanitizing your equipment properly, but you could also posion someone by over sanitizing.

If some of you think this isn't strong enough........ this solution kills the HIV virus. I do day care and this is what our Food monitor tells us all the time..........
