I'm wanting to purchase a pasta machine for fondant/gumpaste work for cake decorating. Never having any experience with a pasta machine, I don't even know what to look for....any advice or type to buy or what to look for in one will be appreciated. Thanks!

The standard table top style can cost about $50, and it is not motorized. you can buy a motor to attach. I haven't tried to price one.

If you have a kitchenaid mixer, you can buy the pasta rollers to use as attachments. Also expensive, but well worth it. Right now, I just make my mom turn the crank on my table top, but my KA is soon to get new attachments.

I agree with JoAnnB. I have a standard table top model. It's easy to use and very affordable. I love mine.

I have a Atlas with the motor . I love it and couldn't live with out it. I ended up gettting the one with the motor because I read that you have to clamp the other one to your table and that was a drawback for me. That and it's so nice to just run it though and have both hands free to work . But that's just me. I have not had one with out the motor so I can't say.

I'm interested in this as well. I have a KA mixer and my DH thinks we should get the attachment which I know is pretty expensive. On the other hand I have chronic pain issues that would make a lot of cranking out of the question.

Oh I don't seem to have a problem with the handcrank one and I have arthritis, some days barely able to walk. Irisinbloom: start with the one from Micheal's, that is the one I got, if ya need to change up for any reason you are only out of $15 bucks this week on sale.

Believe me, you will love it! I use it for everything (see my bows -how thin) and only wish I could afford a dough sheeter, but that's $2,500 in used condition. icon_cry.gif

Actually Michaels has there monthly coupon this week too. The one that's 40% off any one item. So if you got the pasta machine with the coupon, you could get it for $9!

Our Michael's coupons are only good for regular priced merchandise, check the small print to see if yours is also.

I have the hand crank machine and love it! (Actually I have three of them - one each for pasta, polymer clay and fondant!) It's not too hard to crank, but if you're doing a lot of work with it, you might want to upgrade to a power model later.

See how you like it first with the $15 one, would be my recommendation!

Laura.
