I am doing a Tiffany box cake for Saturday and wanted to use super pearl luster dust to make the bow/ribbon look like satin however I just called AC Moore & they don't carry it. My Michaels said they didn't have anything called Luster Dust but had other "glittery & shimmery" stuff. The woman who does their cake demos wasn't in and I am hoping to speak with her tomorrow night BUT just in case....
Has anyone bought a similar product at Micheals? What is it called?
Thanks!!!
The shimmer dust is more of a fine glitter than a pearl dust, and unfortunately won't give you the same result.
Fortunately, 'Wilton has just come out with a line of pearl dusts - there are several colours, including pearl, silver, gold, pink, and yellow, and they are available at Michaels.
It's about time they came out with some, I say!
marecip,
I have never seen Luster Dust at the Michaels or AC Moore here in Lancaster, but you may have luck with the cake decorating store over in York. It's been a while since I've been there, but you could check with them, they carry a lot of different items. It's called Campbell's Cake and Candy. HTH
I have the shimmer dust by Wilton and they are not the same as what Cake Central sells. Wilton's are more like sparkles, just a little finer.
I have bought all of the Wilton Pearl dust and they work pretty good, not as good as the other brands, but in a pinch I think you will be fine.
Oh and their pearl dust are in longer thin tubes, not jars and they come in single packs.
HTH and good luck!
I have a friend who owns a Cake Supply store & she just started selling Pearl Glaze. It's ready to use. You brush it on & wait 20 min to dry then apply a 2nd coat. I've been making buttons & it's really easy to use & such a time saver! You don't have to mix any extract or vodka in it. I'm looking at the bottle now but it doesn't say who makes it. It just says Pearl Glaze on the bottle.
