Ok, to make a long story short "someone" knew I had to make cakes tonight so this "someone" waited till I went to make these cakes and threw steaks into the oven...then proceeded to take up all my space etc. I'm on a time crunch so I was getting really ticked off. Anyway, my head went elsewhere and I forgot to put cake release in the bottom of one of the pans...you get the picture. The replacement cake is in the oven as I type but since the deceased cake was strawberry I don't want to waste it. I have a can of strawberry icing that was for another purpose but I had went a different direction with that project and never used the icing. However, sadly there is no chocolate in this house tonight. I want to make cake balls but don't have liquor or coffee creamer either...so is there a way to make these cake balls with just the deceased cake and the can of icing??? Or is there something else I could do with the cake? (It's in about 20 pieces...and was only a 9" square to begin with)
Any Help Appreciated!!!

most any liquid will work, just don't add too much.

Take a deep breath and put the scraps in the freezer until you get something to dip it in! You don't have to make the cake balls tonight. (Unless you want to use them as cannons to throw at "someone"!)

You should be able to use the icing you have to make the cake balls! Just be sure you don't put too much into the mixer - you will have mushy cake balls.

If that does happen, once you form them into balls, you can put them on a cookie sheet (or any pan really) and bake them at about 250 for 10 min or so and it will firm them up a bit.

I know - that's what I had to do the first time I made cake balls because I put too much icing in!!!

Good Luck and let us know what you end up doing with it!!

Do you have any pudding? That is what I use in my cake balls.

I added 8 oz. softened cream cheese to chocolate cake scraps, mixed well, (like making Oreo truffles), chilled, rolled into balls, then dipped in white chocolate. YUMMY!!!

In which case I would suggest using royal icing to coat. That way you can have your cake (balls), and throw them too! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
