Well I knew it would happen...earlier this year I ranted about how I was trying to get enrolled in the latest wilton class (the fondant/gumpaste class), well after 1.5 months of trying...I got enrolled for the March class. Well the last 2 classes I missed b/c of a medical reason. Talk to the instructor and get the "we'll have another class in May" so in April I start checking...no class, May arrives...no class - in fact it's now June and Michael's has their class calendar up for June & July...NO class!
So the other day, just out of curiousity...I go inside, and discover a sign announcing that they need a wilton instructor. Hmmm so I ask, and discover that the instructor is no longer there, and that they aren't sure when the next class will be...so now I'm out the $ I spent for the class. I'm not sure if I could even talk in a civil manner TO a wilton csr...w/o wanting to haul off and tell them what I think!
Did you pay the instructor or the store? You should be able to get credit if you paid the store and maybe you could talk to Wilton if you paid the instructor and got screwed. Stinks either way.
Maybe it's a sign....find out what you need to know to teach the class, teach yourself, and then be the instructor!
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make up the class when they hire another instructor. There is never a guarantee that an instructor will stay at a store. It's a job and people quit just like in every other profession. I'm sure the store is as anxious to get an instructor in there as you are. Just ask them if you can make the classes up at a later date.
The store gets the money--not the Wilton instructor. (The instructor is an independent contractor, hired by Wilton and paid by the store.) Michael's should either allow you to take the class when it is finally available, or refund your money for the class. HTH.
I was a Michael's instructor here in Sarasota for over 3 years (I had to quit so I could go back and finish my Bachelor's degree). I don't think the store will refund your money because you missed the class (legitimately) - it wasn't like the instructor cancelled the class. Unfortunately I think you're going to have to wait until they get another instructor
When I missed classes because of a legit reason I had the option to re-take the class. The Michael's near me doesn't teach a class unless they have enough signed up for it to justify paying the instructor. It's really not the instructors fault if something happened that you couldn't make the class. Hopefully they'll get a new instructor soon and you'll be able to take the class.
