I know this is a hot topic here but I need to ask...
Is $80-100 to much to charge for a 4" high 11x17 sheet cake with chocolate filling and buttercream icing, decorated with buttercream roses and a few graduation things. Also my cakes are made from scratch.
Thank you
If you figure the servings based on a 1 1/2" x 2" slice (wilton party standard), this will yeild about 56 servings, I think. You would get about 85 servings @ 1" x 2" (wilton standard wedding). If you charged even $2 per serving that would be $2x56= $112.00. or $2x85= $170.00
Your cakes are made from scratch which means higher ingredient cost, more labor and usually a higher quality. It is not the same as a cake from the grocery store made with mixes and preservatives. Are cakes in your area this cheap? Why not call some bakeries and find out.
I am still trying to work this out myself. Most bakers that make specialty cakes in my area (Orange County, CA) start at $3 and up per serving, but it is hard for me to decide what to charge because I am just starting out and completely new to cake decorating.
No way are you are charging too much.
