I understand how to do dowels, but was wondering, what do I do about the hole on the top tier from the long pointy dowel that goes all the way through? The Bride has an "H" for the topper and I don't think it will cover the hole. The cake will be done in ivory fondant.
Thanks

Not a silly question at all.
I've been taught to simply plug the hole with a bit of the same colored fondant. I've done that, but I never just leave it at that. I usually try to put something attractive over that. If no topper is called for, I'll put a small fondant lace piece or a cutout shape that goes with the border or rest of the cake--I also do this well after the cake has settled.
That central dowel can be pretty important, so sometimes creative decorating has to be done to accomodate it. If the top really has to be completely plain and unadorned, you may need to stack on site so that the central dowel isn't as imperative.

I agree with BlakesCakes. If you can't cover it with a topper then create something elegant with fondant. But, if it's a huge cake (like 4-5 tiers), and it's on a stand, and it's on a table, then you might not need to worry about it anyway. I mean, who's going to see the tip-top of the cake?
Good Luck!

You know
maybe I could just set it up at the sight. It's just Ivory fondant with a pearl border and the silver topper. That's a good idea, now why didn't I think of that!
