My birthday party is on Saterday and I'm making my own cake (my choice). Since it's my birthday, I figure this is a great time to play with ideas and do some experiments. I have a bunch of stuff in my cupboard, I haven't had a chance to use, since I only normally make cakes for my friends' birthdays (all I have time for) and I don't like to do anything too weird for that. I'm actually making two cakes, one of which will be my first time using fondant and the other I'll just be going with buttercream, but I will want to play around with the decorations of both cakes. Any ideas of what I should try?

Hi and welcome to CC!

What kinds of flavors do you like? I just made an experiment the other day that was coconut cake with a layer of lime curd and 2 layers of macadamia nut/rum bc filling and iced in rum bc. Dh and his collegues loved it.
