A friend asked me to do her daughter's birthday cake several months ago. The orginal idea was butterflies. How cute I thought. The ideas were just a rolling off the top of my head.
Well, at the end of school year she told me she had changed her mind and they were going to throw a Teletubby party because that is what her soon to be 2 year old daughter wanted. Everyone would be proud of me. I kept the smile plastered to my face as I said, "Teletubbies. Really? Well, that might be just as fun to create as butterflies." Anyway, I reconfirmed again two weeks ago, just incase we went back to butterflies. It was still the tubbies. Sigh!
This was my first attempt at making character figurines. I admit that they are kinda cute and kinda sad at the same time. When I dropped off the cake my friend said, "It keeps getting cuter the more I look at it." I said, "Yeah, the colorful little darlings just grow on you don't they?" I just kept on grinning and quickly backed out of the door and ran for the car.
Yes the cakes are adorable. I am like you and not too crazy about the teletubbies. They are forbidden in my house-they scare me lol. Great job on the cake.

We don't allow the teletubbies in our house either. My son has a speech delay and I don't think that the teletubby jibber-jabber is going to help him. It really is a weird show! Well aside from my anti-teletubby feelings...you really did an awesome job on the cake!!!!
Very nice!
I'm with everyone else, the teletubbies creep me out.
There are two characters I don't want my son to know exsist....Barney and the Teletubbies. LOL
They came out really cute. My 2 1/2 yr old LOVES the Teletubbies. (much to my dismay) I thought I'd never have to see another one until he picked up an old tape one day and found all 4 of the stuffed toys in my older boys' toybox. Sigh, again. Oh well. Very cute cake.
Thanks for all the compliments.
I've decided that this is my first and last teletubby creation. I'm not even going to put it in my portfolio. Even if someone asks me to make a tubby cake, I'm going to tell them it cost some astronomical number and recommend my local Wal-Mart for all their tubby cake needs. ![]()
I don't let my kids watch Barney or Teletubbies. If I hear the music coming on the TV I say, "Hey, let's turn that off and you two little people need to go and vacuum up the floor or go ride your red cars." I push them in the direction of their toys and turn the TV off.
I also don't allow Barney or the Teletubbies in my house. Yikes. They are a bit scary.
Hey how do you put someone else's post in your post (quote?)? I'm a newbie.
Where it says quote at the top of the post--just click on it. It will put the post at the top of your reply.

I think your cakes turned out adorable! I don't know too much about the teletubbies.....my daughter is 16 now, BUT, I know ALL about Barney and I think we owned everything Barney except stock! My cousin is an animator and draws Barney for all of the book illustrations (we have dozens of autographed books from him) and I can tell you my daughter learned SO much from watching his show! I think we owned every Barney tape ever made! I'm with you, heiser73...there are MANY worse things for kids to watch than Barney and the Teletubbies (although I'm not sure what a child can learn from Teletubbies....they can't talk can they?)!
Anywho....great cakes!
In my opinion there are a lot better shows for my kids to watch too. If they are going to watch t.v. I would rather it be Sesame Street or Blue's Clues. I want my kids to learn something if they are watching t.v. I can't see that Teletubbies teaches much, but I guess it's better then Boobah...I won't even let my daughter play that game on the computer.
Your cake is adorable and what your customer ordered.
I know the opinions of TV watching is getting away from the topic of this thread but I'd much rather my grandkids were watching Teletubbies and Barney than some of the sexy advertising that is on TV all hours of the day and night. I've yet to see a child that didn't stop what he was doing to watch a commercial--no matter what it is for.
