Has anyone bought the non toxic chalk and used on their fondant/gumpaste? I needed some colors in dust. But I don't have time to go all the way downtown (with 2 kids in tow, in 110 degree heat) to buy dust. So off to the nearest Michaels on cake supplies and happen to find non toxic chalk in the artist/hobbist area. SO I bought a pallette for $3.00!

I looked up dust online and petal/luster dust is non-toxic but not FDA approved. So do you think chalk and dust are the same? I mean one is ground up in a little cute jar and the other in a log form! Right? Technically people don't eat the fondant/ gumpaste florals or artwork anyway.

I would love to know peoples opinions!

As long as you use it on decorations that will NOT be eaten, it works fine. Even though it is non-toxic, it is not edible.

I use the non-toxic chalks for my gum paste flowers. I like the large variety of colors I can get in a package. I got mine from Hobby Lobby, just an off brand and they were extremely inexpensive. I only use it on items that will not be eaten, which is most anything made from gum paste, as it isn't very tasty!

I went on Ebay in the scrapbooking section and searched chalks.I bought 2 kits. One is shimmer pastels and the other is matte earthtones.I paid $14.99 for each and they are fantastic for gumpaste flowers etc.The colors are fabulous and cheaper than buying all the dust separately! This one is the shimmer pastels!!

Here is a pic!!

My local AC Moore sells those kits you just posted and I have been really wanting to try them out but I have not heard anyone talk of them until now. I will have to round up some 40% off coupons and try them for myself. Thanks kiddiekakes!!!!

It's not toxic, but as long as you don't eat them in chunks, it should be safe for coloring or shading gumpaste flowers. we can't possibly worry about every little things. icon_smile.gif
