Hi everyone, need help with cake core. I put the cake core first in 12 X 3 cake pan and then I fill the pan with the batter and also filled the core with some batter. Was I suppose to pour batter into cake pan first then insert the grease covered with parchment paper core into the batter and fill core half way with batter. I'm just doing a test run cake so If I made a mistake, this is the time to do it before the week of the event. Thank you for your suggestions. icon_smile.gif

I use a caooking spray and spray the core put it right in. Fill the core half way up then fille the pan. I found it helps to fill the core first becasue when you add the batter to the pan it doens't try and float it in. HTH

I just got a relevant tip from my Mom I thought I'd share. She said to use a large flower nail upside down in the center instead of the core. If you lower the normal baking temp by 25 degrees and use the nail, you shouldn't need the core (which is a pain). After you flip it and the cake cools - you just pull out the nail.

I use the flower nail too. I spray it with cooking spray and place it in after I fill the pan. Haven't had a problem yet pulling out after the cake is baked.

I too use the flower nail method. I do not even turn my temp down, I just do the same thing and the cake turns out great. With a cake your size, I would use 2 or 3 nails if you can.
