O.K. so I have been baking a lot this weekend and screwing up even more. I know I have to learn but UGH icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif . I am going to throw out a bunch of questions tonight and hope you will help me and not get sick of my ignorance.

First off, when you add pudding to a DH mix, do you use instant pudding or regular?

When you add an extra egg to a mix, what are you adding it for? What does it do to help you?

Is it o.k. to add the pudding, egg, and sour cream to one mix or is that asking for trouble icon_confused.gif ?

Thanks in advance for your help! I have four cakes to make this weekend so you will be hearing lots more from me I'm sure icon_rolleyes.gif .

I'll answer what I know, which isn't much... icon_redface.gif

I use instant pudding mix. I've also added some sour cream at the same without any problems.

At least maybe this will give you a bump! thumbs_up.gif

I add the instant pudding in powder form, I do not mix it with the milk. Then I add one extra egg.

Egg is addtional liquid for the pudding, and from what I read additional firmness with the egg white in there.

I haven't added sourcream along with the pudding and egg so I can't help with this one sorry.

HTH, baking unfortunately is a lot of trial and error, but wouldn't you rather get all of the error out in one week then have a lot of good weeks ahead =) /hug

Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why my last two sets of cakes are falling. I am sure my oven temp is correct and I am following all the other directions.

I use the DH mix, added an egg, and added instant pudding mix.

Leily, I laughed when I read your post. If only these were the last of my mistakes. You must be a glass half full kind of girl!

O.K. maybe this is it. What size box of pudding do you use. The big one or the small one per one DH cake mix?

I used the big box. Should I use the small box?

it's the small box that is used.

LOL, you caught me on a good day =)

As for the size of box I always use the small box for one cake mix.

Also what size of cake are you trying to bake? If it is to big you may be cooking the outsides faster than the inside and need a heating core/flower nail in the middle

It's only an 8". I think it must be the pudding. I am going to rebake it in the morning and see if that fixes it. Oh, Lord, please let that fix it!!!!
